We have just spent 3 nights at the hotel and really couldn't fault it, exept maybe a lift would have been useful. Excellent rooms, friendly staff and a superb restaurant, do try it if you stay there as you also get 11% discount on your bill. Just don't stay here if you don't like stairs. A beautiful, traditional house that has been very sympathetically restored, even the furnishings were all in character. Even if you don;t use the hotel try the restaurant, we ate deer, wild boar, catfish, all delightful.

It's situated in the beautiful 'old market square' in privileged position, in front of 'Kósciól Mariacki' Church and the old market. It's a small charming hotel in old stile... very nice. The floors are 3 and to mantain the beautiful structure..there's no elevator. Staff is very nice. You will taste the really poland atmosphere! I suggest to go there if you can!

Historical Traveller Reviews of Hotel Wentzl

Loved the Wentzl

from puggy123
Just back from a 3 night stay at Hotel Wentzl. Exceeded my expectations even though I had read other glowing reports. The room was large and looked right onto the square, it also had a plasma tv, DVD player, robes, slippers, remote control air conditioning and more. The staff were very helpful and friendly, I would love to go back to Krakow and would organise around availability of the Wentzl. The restaurant was also excellent.

Wentzl - Exceeded expectations

from donstim
Absolutely enjoyed our stay in the Wentzl. Even with the high expectations due to all of the great reviews, seeing was believing. I would seriously plan any future trips to Krakow around the availability of this wonderful hotel. Being right on the main square of Krakow in a large, tastefully decorated room was a hit with us. And the staff really are as friendly and helpful as many of the other reviews noted.

Fantastic Hotel

We have just returned from a four night stay in the Wentzl hotel.
Fantastic room, fantastic view, fantastic staff, fantastic city.
Loved every second of it!! The hotel has got to be one of the best we have stayed in, even the lack of lift did not spoil it for us, although sometimes the stairs were a bit daunting after a day sight seeing. The staff were so helpful and met every request with a smile. The room was luxurious, tastefully decorated and had the most wonderful view of the square. If you are heading to Krakow make sure you stay in the Wentzl.

Fantastic Hotel!!!!

My husband and I have just returned from a 4 day break in Krakow. I booked the Wentzl after reading TripAdvisor reviews (essential requirement for booking holiday!). What can I say about the hotel - fantastic. Our room was on the 3rd floor and I can honestly say that it was better than all of the 4/5 star hotels we have stayed in on our travels. Room was huge and it even had a flat-screen TV, bathroom luxurious and view from the hotel excellent. Only downside was no lift. The location is right on the square so everything is on the doorstep. Staff go out of their way to be friendly and helpful, even arranged our trip to Austwich.

We had a wonderful relaxing stay at the hotel and could not fault this at all. On top of that Krakow was wonderful and we will definitely be returning to the Wentzl again! Recommended 1st class!!!

The Wentzl is awesome!

We just returned from a 5-day stay in Krakow. We were at the Wentzl for the first 3 nights. I just can't say enough about this hotel. The location is superb, as it puts you right on the market square. We were lucky enough to have a room facing the square so we could always see what's going on, yet it was insulated enough that we weren't affected by the loud activities. The room decor is immaculate right down to the wall-mounted flat-screen TV. What impressed us the most though was the staff. They were extremely friendly and will do whatever it takes to make you happy. If we return to Krakow, the Wentzl will be our first choice of where to stay.

Try the soup

from A TripAdvisor Member
I have not had the opportunity to stay in this hotel, but my son and I did eat in the restaurant. It was a wonderful experience. Everything was elegance, from the room itself to the waiters and employees. Due to time constraints, we planned to order a quick meal. We decided on a soup and a dessert. We both ordered the "Zurek," which is a traditional Polish soup with quail egg and sausage. We also chose the same dessert. It was "Vanille Mousse with wild raspberries and Champagne sauce." While we were waiting for our order, the waitress came to our table and said: "complements of the hotel" and gave each of us each a liver pate' appetizer. That was a pleasant surprise.

When the soup arrived, both of us could not believe how good it was. I would almost be willing to do something illegal to get the recipe. The dessert was equally as good. The presentation was most unique. If you are traveling on a budget and find the hotel out of your price range, don't let this keep you from the food in the restaurant. I repeat!! Try the Zurek. You won't be disappointed.

Simply the Best

The Wentzl is simply delightful. I've stayed in fine hotels all over Europe and the US and this one is a rare combination of old world charm coupled with modern luxury-style features in all the right places (e.g. bedding, bathrooms, air conditioning). Spacious clean rooms, most of which overlook the square. Open the double set of windows to the sounds of the lively sqaure, or close them for blissful peace and quiet. Comfy bedding, modern/clean bathrooms, very friendly and helpful staff; amazingly fit bellhop who will carry all your bags up and down the stairs with no complaints, and even transport them to or from your car parked down the street; fantastic restaurant offering outdoor dining on the square or more intimate dining upstairs; good breakfast in pleasant enviornment. Can't beat location. My sister and I are going to Krakow again this July and can't wait to stay there again. We're just glad we were able to secure a reservation.

Excellent hotel

from cw0866
Fantastic hotel with the best location in Krakow. Although only officially a 3 star hotel (as it has no lift) it punches way above its weight and is better than most 4 star hotels and as good as some UK 5 star hotels. Rooms and bathrooms spotless, breakfast good and free in-room wireless access is great for business travellers.

Flawless and faultless

from Captain-Stephen
A flawless experience. This hotel could teach lessons to many more illustrious European hotels about service and attention to detail.
Firstly, it’s in arguably the best location in Krakow, with huge rooms (at least the ones I’ve booked have been) high ceilings, enormous picture windows and fantastic character furniture and furnishings.
Little touches added to the element of surprise and delight, with a great selections of teas and coffee in the room, presented in a beautiful box with elegant cups etc.
Fluffy towels, bath robes, and even a couple of rubber ducks!
Secondly, and equally important, a great restaurant (and I’ve eaten in many of the best around the world), world class food and service for a fraction of the cost you’d pay in the UK.
I can’t speak highly enough of this place. Yes, it’s true there isn’t a lift (although one is being installed soon), but if that’s the only gripe…
Many thanks for such a wonderful stay. If you can book a room, GO!

Fantastic hotel, great location great restaurant

from zx1985
This was one of the best hotels I stayed at during a recent european trip, fantastic experience absolute luxury with a room overlooking the old market square and Christmas markets, fluffy dressing gowns and slippers. Three flights of stairs were the only downside, but there is an ever willing porter to assist with luggage. Restaurant shouldnt be missed. Staff were extra obliging, I wouldnt stay anywhere else in Krakow.

Top Local Tips for Krakow

Food Look for local restaurants off the main square, they are cheep and serve some great food

Excellent dinner We ate at the Szabla i Szkanka restaurant on Poselska street number 22 twice during our stay. It's a short walk from the Wentzl. The food is excellent & very good value.

Sightseeing tips Book trips for Auschwitz and the Salt Mines in the tourist office down a side street across the square for 80 and 90 zlt instead of the hotel's 120 zlt charge. Get to the Castle early so that they still have tickets available. Trip to the mountain in Zakopane can be done from the bus stop for 15 zlt and it takes 2 hours. The sightseeing trip for the Jewish quarter/Schindler's List locations is a bit dull because there isn't a huge amount to see.
