Never Again Holiday Inn!!!

from tokyodrift
I am extremely disappointed with the handling of the reservation and service of Holiday Inn Krakow (HIK)

First of all, I have requested a reservation for my family of 3 adults and one child two months prior date of arrival and was quoted a rate that was much higher than standard rate offer on the internet even with no advance notice.

Secondly, the reservation was for a non smoking adjoining room to accomodate 4 persons. On arrival, we found ourselved booked into a smoking floor rooms that were neither adjoining nor suitable for 4 persons as they were single beds. Although we were assured that this problem would be taken care of by the front desk, it was not.

The included breakfast was unsatifactory and not worthy of 3 star representation. It is most certainly not worth the excess rates charged by the hotel and most definately does not compare to similar hotels in this market rate.

Being a Priority Club Member (since 2000), I was expecting a complimentary newspaper, but learned that all the newspapers were charged to the rooms.

It is rather unfortunate that Holiday Inn would take advantage of a traveller with many surprises, hidden costs, and dishonest business like this, but I have been motivated by this experience so much that I am posting this experience so that other travellers will not go through this pain.

Definately not worh the money - There are many other hotels that are better at lower price.

I would never recommened staying in Holiday Inn for Various Reasons:
a) Staff at Reception hardly communicate to each other - example being a Priority Club Member, we are entitled to get free newspaper and on descretion of the Hotel Magazines as well. I asked them if it was ok for me to take magazines instead, and they agreed. Since then everytime I had to go and pick up the magazine, I had to explain each time, that I am a priortiy Club member and it is ok for me to take magazines. This fine morning, the staff at reception was quite rude by pointing out, that it costs more than newspapers and you are not allowed to take them

b) There are only a few english channels - there is always some problem with the english channels, requests and complaints go on a deaf ear.

c) I had asked to change to Executive room to avoid this and the response I get is ..WHY DO YOU WANT TO CHANGE.. ??

I was here on a month long stay and should have switched to Radisson , which is close to Centrum as well..

Simply Excellent

Having just returned from the Holiday Inn in Krakow we can honestly say that this is one of the best hotels we have ever stayed in. The staff were very helpful and friendly, the hotel was spotless and the breakfast was a feast, so fresh and lots to choose from. The hotel is in an ideal location for the Old Square, about 5 minutes walk. The city is very beautiful with lots to see and we felt very safe when walking out at night. We went on two trips during our 3 night stay one to the Salt Mines and the other to Auschwitz. Both definately worth doing but a note to be aware of, the trip companies only accept cash not credit card payment. This was our first trip to Krakow and we would definately stay at this hotel again. Just a note that they are presently renovating the Old Square so we'd advise you to leave it another month to see it at its best.

Excellant hotel

Just got back from the Holiday Inn Krakow. Excellant location close to the old town, rooms clean, of a high standard and quiet. Enormous breakfast, enough to keep you going until the evening meal, and something for everyone. Staff helpful.

Great Service

Everything spot on. Was slightly reluctant to book a chain hotel to begin with, but being a cold winter visit decided that if there were any problems (eg heating not working in room) we would have more chance of getting something done about it.
Arrived at 10:00 - 1 of 2 rooms booked ready for us, other room prepared in 20 minutes.
Rooms spacious and comfortable.
Breakfast excellent and very substantial.
Location - 5 minutes to main square
Even got a free drink due to lobby bar being closed for upgrade!!!

Nice hotel

It was -22C outside and +22C inside last week when we stayed here. Its a nice modern hotel in a central location and we would recommend it. Rooms are a decent size, safes are provided, excellent breakfast buffet and the staff can't do enough for you. Of all the hotels we have stayed at all over the world this one has the distinction of having the very best toilet paper!
So overall, very good. Now the negative points: Bath towels too small and thin, Drinks and meals too expensive (but excellent nearby), beds have nasty rubberised undersheets which make you sweat so much you'll think you've wet the bed. We paid about 95 euros a night B&B for two of us which I consider to be fair value.

Great location. Fabulous hotel. Nice big bedrooms. Friendly staff. Ace food. Perfect really. Highly recommended

I would not stay here again

from Julwin
We arrived in Krakow in the middle of a series of snow storms. Because of the storms, the hotel had difficulty accommodating our room request--which we had booked online two months earlier. We originally were given a room with two twin beds, but when we requested a double--we could not check get in our room for a few hours due to many stranded guests. Eventually we were given a "pull-down" double bed in the hotel apartment area. The room was freezing cold and we had to ask for additional pillows and blankets as the heat did not increase using the thermostat. The location was close to the Centrum, but we also found many other boutique hotels in the Centrum which would've been more convenient. I would not recommend this hotel if you are in Krakow.

Enjoyed stay

from Hotelwatcher
Stayed at the hotel for two days only. Received a warm Polish welcome from all the staff. Room was very tidy and up to the usual above average Holiday Inn standard. Friendly barstaff, English not a problem in this hotel. 1st class location, 10 minutes walk from the old center. Will gladly use again on my next trip.

Top Local Tips for Krakow

Airport Book your transfer via the hotel - its only 65 PLN - the same as a taxi cost but there will be someone waiting for you and no need to queue for taxis.

Up and coming city There are about 100,000 students in Krakow. The city has a young positive energy. Great place to spend some time, enjoy the shops, restaurants, people watching in the main square, and local tours. You really don't need a rental car, parking is difficult and taxis are very affordable.
