Top Local Tips for Oslo
Getting around Oslo The Oslo Pass is a great deal. We got a 3-day pass for our family of four in June 2008 and its cost (1120 NOK, or $224 for 2 adult and 2 child passes) is well worth it. It gets you into all the museums in town, lets you ride all the trains. buses, and metros, and even offers you a discount at some restaurants. You can also get 24 and 48-hour passes for lower rates.
Oslo Make sure you realise the price of everything is almost triple that in the UK before you go and you will have a great time. Also if you fly to Torp airport Oslo city centre is about 1 hour and 45mins by bus and costs about £30 return which I think is cheaper than catching the train. Wrap up warm although the climate isn't much harsher than the UK. Make the most of the public transport and go for a few trips outside the city. Trams, ferrys and trains can all be taken using a day card which is £6 and lasts 24 hours, although nobody actually checked that we had one. Oh and taxis are really expensive so if you can figure out which tram you need from the bus station to your hotel do it and buy a ticket before you get on. Most people speak English so it is easy to get about and do stuff. Overall a beautiful city with great scenery and museums. An ideal weekend break.
