Top Local Tips for Bodo
Lofoten Islands If you know your dates slightly in advance, and you're traveling in Winter to the Lofoten Islands using Bodo as your gateway - it's not cheaper, though far more reliable to book a flight into Leknes (www.wideroe.no), and take the bus from Leknes to the south part of the Lofotens as my ferry was cancelled on back to back days before I went for the flight/bus route. The weather in the Winter can be rediculously unpredictable & extremely harsh.

Saltstraumen Tidal Flow It is possible to see this tidal flow phenomenon using the public bus so it needn't cost much. Consult the tide-tables available at the Tourist Office. Then select your bus times to co-incide with the start of the flow. Two bus companies operate the route ( offering different fares) so there are plenty of buses. The 34 Km trip takes about 50 minutes, and costs around 55 to 65 NOK each way, as of Aug 2009.
