The Mercure Hotel Breda Centre is not a luxurious place, but my 3-week stay was comfortable. Some of the staff are very proficient in English, and others were less comfortable in English. The staff is genuinely helpful. The hotel is immediately adjacent to the train tracks and train station in Breda. This area is not visually appealling (a new train station is in design now), but very efficient for travel from Schipol, etc. The hotel offers free parking, which is otherwise tough to find in the Station area. The hotel is across Falconberg Park from the "real" city center at the Grote Market, only a short 250 meter walk. Food service is available 24 hours a day, with (comparatively) economical prices. The chef really likes to do elaborate preparation and presentation, and goes overboard with simple requests. Bikes are available for rent from the hotel - but check out your bike before you take off. They're pretty basic "granny bikes" which have been pounded a bit. Also, be very specific at the front desk about your rental. Is it 5€ for a 24-hour rental? or just until midnight (not such a good deal if you rent after 5 p.m.)? While the hotel doesn't have a gift shop or news stand, they're both available right across the bus ramp at the train station.
