Worst hotel ever

I stayed in The Waterfront hotel in Amsterdam. Was charged 225 Euro's for a double room. Since reading there website that room should have only cost 135 Euro's. Only paid it because we had spent 3 hours looking for somewhere to stay. The room was 3m x 3m and not en-suite (even though the website says all rooms are). To use the bathroom you had to go into the corridor. It wasnt even a double bed, it was two single beds of not same
height pushed together. Within an hour the worker or owner (not sure which) tried to break into our room. Just by chance I was opening my door which made him run which looked odd. He couldn't be running from anything else. Then an other hour later he was at my door again listening to see if we were in. He was there for over ten minutes. I was watching him through my spy hole. I coughed loudly and he legged it again. How desperate was he!!! This made us very paranoid which had me using the spy hole everytime I heard a noise. He had also been into the next guests room on our floor. It was top of the building, two guest rooms and a toilet. There was no other reason for him to be there. If I had complained about this at the time, I felt I would have been kicked out of the hotel and back to square one and certainly no refund.
Steer clear of this hotel. If your not cleaned out by the price of a room, you most certainly will be by someone that works there.

Top Local Tips for Amsterdam

Lovely place to stay We spent 2 nights in the Hotel Caransa on Rembrandthplein. It was very convenient, clean and had stunning views. I would highly recommend it.

eating cheap The Albert Heijn on the corner is an excellent place to pick up some bread, cheese, beer, etc....They have a wonderful selection at reasonable prices-this is where the locals get groceries...We only ate in a restaurant once during our three day stay (other than the mandatory frites with mayonaise!)...A sandwich on the fly saves not only money, but time for more sightseeing, too!

visit to Keukenhof Lindberg travel organise a trip to Keukenhof and the bulb fields. Of the 19 miles of bulb fields they take you through about half a mile to Keukenhof - a garden full of spring flowers - it is pretty but the trip on the coach is vastly expensive, the guide told us nothing, scammed us for a tip and at 32 euros a head (entrance to the garden is 13 Euros) it would have been better to have take a bus. Do not do this trio with this trip organiser.
