Hey folks,,, buyer beware,,, I wouldn’t ever recommend this hotel,, its **** even behind the receptionist it states no refunds,,, no wonder,,, nothing like the pictures on the net,,, bedding full of holes,,, shower full of mould,,, breakfast cheap and well crap,,, and for the price £250 for three nights a dive,,, eh and try to email the hotel they don’t even have a valid email address,,,, says it all, a **** hole. Please don’t go to this hotel, try a park bench it probably will be better.

    Beware
By the look of other peoples reviews, same old story, ‘we do not have the room you booked’, so I was upgraded ha ha. In the five days I stayed, the room was never cleaned and I doubt if it was cleaned when I arrived, towels were only changed because I asked.. P.S. get up early because if you don’t you will be limited to cheese, salami and bread. I know what your thinking why did we not leave, you ‘pay on arrival’ and then you see the notice ‘no refunds’.My final comment “Cairo comes to Amsterdam"

    Reasonable
We arrived and were told our room was double booked so we could stay there for the first night but would then have to move to an apartment. We agreed but the next day were told that we would be moving to a different room in the hotel. We were slighty annoyed but didn't really mind because we were only there for 4 days and had planned not to spend much time in the hotel. We then finally got to the apartment and it was lovely- big living room and dining table, comfy bed, nice bathroom and kitchen. so all in all we did well out of the moving room fiasco. The price was reasonably cheap considering we did stay in an apartment for 1 night. The location was good for the hotel and apartment. Only a short walk to anything. The room in the hotel was ok but quite noisy at night time- not sure what the noise was? The staff were not that helpful but seemed to sort it out in the end! Generally ok stay.

    Horrible
I stayed at this hotel for two nights and boy did it add to my very negative experience in Amsterdam. Just so it would be easy to read I summed up all the negative and positive points of this hotel. Bad - 1. Deposit of 5 euros for the room key and the reception refuses to take your key when you leave for the day. A cheap way to make money if people lose the hotel key. Highly unprofessional. 2. 5% charge if you decide to pay for your stay by a credit card. 3. Extremely narrow, and I mean narrow staircases. Usually Dutch hotels have a pully for your luggage or staff to carry them. Sphinx does not. Be careful not to break your neck. P.S. No elevator. 4. We were never imformed that not every room has a shower and a toilet. So if you don't want to pay extra, you have to share a shower and a toilet with other occupants. 5. Rude staff. Very loud and obnoxoius.Talks in the backyard into the wee hours of the night. 6. Usually hotels give you leway during what time you can check in, th... Read more

    Traveller beware! Room 4
I want to say that this is the worst hotel room I have ever stayed in in my entire life ( I'm without doubt that a 3 night stay in a prison cell would be more appealing!)The room showed no similarity to the photos shown on the web site, there was no shower on our floor,( having to go passed reception up one flight of stairs!) not enough room to swing a cat, ( sorry cat lovers) literally just room for the 2 beds a sink and a single robe with a 30CM space between all.We paid 241 euros for the privilege! We didn't expect luxury as all we needed was a base but expected better than that for our money. My advice is go elsewhere even if it's a little more expensive . this hotel experience ruined a perfectly good city break. If you do get offered room 4 say NO. you have been warned !
