Top Local Tips for Amsterdam

Some up-to-date info on The Ship Museum, the Modern Art Museum, and Rijksmuseum The Ship Museum (SCHEEPVAART closed Jan 2006, to re-open in 2009(!?!) not great news, as I found this out after a bit of a hike to get to it - in rain. The Rijks museum is partially closed - not sure until when - but the Phillips wing is still open, and there was still enough there to amuse and delight for hours. The Modern Art Museum id temporarily located in a warehouse-like building Stedelijk C5. At 9 euros, this was the dearest of tghe museums I visited, and the most disappointing. Better to go to the Tropenmuseum - an unexpected gem, and/or the Verzets-Museum, both vaguely in the same direction. The latter concentrates on the occupation of the Country by the Germans, and was actually a better display and story than the Anne Frank House, in my opinion, though if you can do both, do so. The Jewish Museum (Joods Historich) was disappointing for me - but would probably appeal to Jews, or those specifically interested in Jewish History in Holland.

Amsterdam stay Take a day ticket for getting round Amsterdam

enjoy lots of nightlife in ams, restaurants cafes pubs galore. Red light district a must, exercise common sense caution , and dont get ripped off.
