The hotel is cheap, but i wouldn't give it the one star it proudly holds at the front door.
The only working shower had only COLD, and one great morning ALMOST lunk warm, water. Our room faced the street (at street leavel), and the window couldn't clouse (there were a gap of about 1 inch.) When i asked for changeing of the 3 not working lightbulbs in our room, they handed me a bag of lightbulbs and i could do it my self. The daily changed towels where clean, 5 out of 6 times.

It was an alright place, nice people. The only downfall was that we had rodents in our room, and when we tried to complain they absolutely denied the fact that they would have any.

Top Local Tips for Amsterdam

Taxis from Schiphol Try to book a cab before arriving, either through your hotel or with Schiphol Taxis. (www.schipholtaxi.nl). That way you will be able to get a far better rate. There are plenty of taxis as you come out of the airport, but the drivers (who I know have to make a living, but it is sooo annoying) will try to rip you off as much as possible. For instance, this time (after a lengthy negotiation) we paid 40 Euros for a taxi from airport to Leidseplein, but only 30 Euros on way back because we booked through hotel. My friends paid a little less than this from the hotel they stayed at.

get a bike! this city is sooo bike friendly and way smaller than you think. stay where you want and ride to your destination in under 10 minutes. the trams are also amazing

Best Food EVER Go to the Kentucky Fried Chicken located in the center of town. It is an original "Kentucky Fried Chicken", not the new "KFC" crap. Go there AFTER touring the coffee shops and the red light district.
