Tamara is a dirty hotel and we will never come back here again. I would tell all my mates in Sydney not to visit this hotel in amsterdam. Furthermore, the staff members are quite rude and have no manners.

This must be the worst place called 'hotel' I've ever slept in!! Narrow corridors, room size of a matchbox, funny smell everywhere (jazz tobacco..), dirty, what else. I stayed at Tamara for two nites and on the 1st nite, early in the morning, somebody was trying to enter my room silently. Luckily I was awake, reading a book and started yelling. When I opened the door (the lock was super kinky, yet unlocked), the person had vanished. Next nite I made an alarm system of my bags and things. Amsterdam/The Netherlands legislation seems to allow to use 'hotel' as a name for any doghouse. And the hotel receptionist/owner(?) was pretty stoned, yet an interesting figure. I really cant remember the exact date/year I was there, it was plus/minus year 2000, but one thing is for sure: I will not ever forget the place. I googled the hotel Tamara's name by curiosity just to find out if it still exists. And it does, strangely enough, hih.

Not clean, not cheap, but central!

This hostel is the worst I have seen. I did not expect anything great and really just needed a place to throw my bag. However, the place is dirty, smells funny, you do not get a welcome drink or a free Amsterdam map like they promise. The beds were so old I could not sleep, so I moved the mattress to the floor. The water did not run in our room. The towels, mattresses and sheets had holes all over. The carpet was disgusting. Seriously, I am not picky and have been to many hostels before, but that was too much. You would not expect that in Amsterdam. Only good thing: safe and central.

That old man

Hotel Tamara for me at first glance was the biggest dump I'd ever seen. You're going up the stairs that's as narrow as I don't know what. There's a musty smell around the place. I went on a holiday last year and to be honest I don't think anyone going over to Amsterdam is lookin for 5 star treatment. While the place was a mess, my head was also a mess and the old man, stoned as he was a right howl. I intend to go back to the very same hotel and get as fucked as I did the last time. Review on the hotel - go there it's cheap, close to city and to the coffee shops - the most important tourist attraction of the Dam!

Where did they get the old man?

Pros: Cheap, Secure, staff keeps a close eye on who comes in and out. One of the night staff was a ~50-65 old man always smoking from a pipe, take an hour or five out of your time to talk to him about politics, economy, history, etc. Cons: A really crummy hotel, but you get what you pay for. Don't expect anything great, other than a place to throw your bag.
