Canal Cruise The canal cruise I went on was actually a lot of fun and gave you a great view of the historic houses and shops along the canal. Definitely bring a good pair of walking shoes as this is the best way to get around. If you have special dietary needs, such as vegetarian, scout out restaurants before you come. It's a good idea to get the Amsterdam Pass - 2 or 3 days of unlimited public transportation and free or discounted admission to museums or attractions. I traveled in November and it was cold and rainy but still plenty to do and see and not incredibly crowded.

Cheap eats. We found it was cheaper to eat while on the go at a all the different markets, herring stalls, a small establishments that had food that you could grab and go. Most of these places were again, near the outdoor markets, the museum district, or the Red Light District.
