Friendly Staff, Great Breakfast

Staff at Hotel Max Hemonystraat where extremely helpful and friendly, the rooms where comfortable and the continental breakfast was very nice. Good public transport around the city. Restaurants around Amsterdam very nice but some were a little pricey!

Horrible Experience

My stay at Hotel Max was the worst experience that I have ever had at a hotel (and I'm a fairly experienced traveler). When we first checked in the room seemed nice - small but cute - but it had a funny odor. We spent most of the next day at museums, and when we returned in the evening the room smelled HORRIBLE and there were flies everywhere. I eventually traced the smell to the toilet, which was leaking sewage from the septic pipe. There was a small (9cm x 9cm) puddle of raw sewage on the shower floor (the toilet is in the shower). I went to reception to demand that they fix the problem or give us another room, and the receptionist told me that there was no way that they would give us another room, and that there was nothing that he could do about the smell. He handed me a bottle of glass cleaner (not kidding) and said that I should clean it up myself. When I asked for the managers name so that I could contact him directly the receptionist rudely refused. DO NOT stay at...... Read more
