The most terrible experience ever. Too many to outline here. Basically not a single positive thing I can think about, from hygiene to comfort to staff. Strongly recommend against.

We had read reviews of the hotel before going to Amsterdam (but after booking intelligently enough!)and they sounded horrible but we couldn't find a much wrong with it! We're not stereotypical 'backpacker-types' and have high standards for accommodation and Hotel Linda was more than okay. The room and bedlinen was spotless and fresh, the breakfast was lovely-cereals, eggs, bread, a selection of cold meats and cheese- and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. It's about a twenty minute walk from the centre but the trams (numbers 4, 16 and 25) stop just by the hotel and are reasonable at 1.60 for 1-zone within an hour. The only complaint we had was that the stairs are VERY steep but we're all in out early twenties so could manage them easily enough. Just don't have too much to drink! If you're expecting 5-star luxury you won't get it but at 40 per night a clean, comfortable place to stay is a steal!

The Hotel Linda: Absolutely the worst place I have ever seen, sleeping in my car would have been, much more luxurious then this "PIT", actually it was very funny to see, my girlfriend and I had a big laugh about it, we decided to not take the room and moved to the Marriott by Leidesplein. 1 block off of P.C.Hoofstraat, where there is room service, concierge. If you are going to Amsterdam and your choice is going to the hotel Linda, stay home and clean the garage you would feel a whole lo better then going to this hole in the wall place

I have to say that I disagree completely, having stayed there twice before I can't recommend it highly enough! We found the rooms and linens to be very clean and tidy. OK, there are some steep stairs but that is commonplace in Amsterdam, where the buildings tend to be tall and narrow. There are rooms on the ground floor, so you could probably request one of those if stairs are a problem. They do give you bath towels if you ask, which is the norm for hotels in this price range. This is to keep prices low as a lot of people prefer to use their own anyway. I found the staff to be most pleasant and helpful. Whilst the facilities are very basic, the standard is more than adequate for the price.

I have stayed in cheaper, nicer, cleaner youth hostels. This was the worst possible experience imaginable. We won't list everything, because we would surely run out of space. The rooms were digustingly dirty, the carpets were filthy with fag butts on our bedroom floor. The rooms don't have tv, phones or internet connection. The staff are rude, decietful and totally unhelpful. The room was up 38 vertical steps - no lift, no porter! The bedlinen and towels were dirty, ripped and had fag burns in. There was no air, the room was boiling hot and very noisy (you could hear the buzzer, voices, keys turning all day/night). There was no wardrobe, only a coat hook, no towels except hand towels (until we asked at reception).
We complained, asked for a refund and we were told "no". We asked to speak to a manager and were told "no".
Do not, under any circumstances (no matter how cheap your budget) stay here - there are some really reasonable, very clean and friendly youth hostels in central MuntPlein, which would be a much better bet!
