Top Local Tips for Amsterdam

Plan to spend at least a week... Plan to stay as long as possible. There is so much to see...museums, shops, historical sites, canal rides, bike rides, vondelpark...

Get a bus pass If you are going to use public transport and don't know the city then make sure you get a bus pass that let's you get on and off as much as you want each day. We found ourselves hoping on and off the street cars due to our own navigational incompetence and if we'd had to pay for each trip individually we'd have been in trouble. You do enough walking that being able to hop on and hop off is a blessing. We had the IAmsterdam card for 48 hours which included the public transport and then we bought some sort of Hop on Hop off bus pass for another 24 hours...your IAmsterdam folks at the Airport or across the street from Central Station can really help you with all of this - we got our Anne Frank House tickets and a day bus excursion to other parts of the Netherlands from them too. Very helpful.

Overall view We absolutely loved Amsterdam.In saying that the Hotel Hoksbergen is not for the elderly or disabled,it would depend on the health of the person and the type of disability.The gardens in Amsterdam are well worth seeing as are the museums.Shopping is good.Watch your purse as there could be some light fingered people in the crowds.
