The location of the Hotel was literally just off Dam Square by a few hundred metres and room prices were very reasonable - given the location.

The room facilities were basic but very clean and tidy. For breakfast we used the cafe premises next door.

The only down side was that we were staying on the second floor and there was no lift.

All things considered, we didn't spend too much time in our room because there is too much to see in Amsterdam to stay in any Hotel.

Given the cost, the location was great."

Top Local Tips for Amsterdam

Places to stay It is probably best to stay a bit out of the inner ring of Amsterdam, as it can be loud at night. It is an easy city to walk do to a small amount of cars, but watch out for bikes.

Cocain Extasy. If you hear those words spoken (and if you travel in the main tourist eason you will) or if some of the fellows that hang arround on the streets try and talk to you or call you over, ignore them and walk on. For me its hard to walk on when someone is talking right to me, which is why I got robbed at gunpoint several years ago. Dont let this put you off going, I ignored the rules which are abundently avalable on staying safe. These men will not get offended or single you out if you ignore them, they'll move straight onto the next person. Dont even stop to say no. I have been to Amsterdam 4 times since that incidednt and have had a great time every time. Just be aware of th dangers.

Keep your eyes and ears open Amsterdam is carnage, you have trams, cars, HUNDREDS of bikes, rickshaws, horse and carts, motorbikes etc etc going in different directions, there really doesn't seem to be a system and its hard to predict where they all come from and where they are going. Be careful after "relaxing" my friends x
