This is probably the worst hotel room I have ever experienced. This was not the cheapest booking I have made to Amsterdam, yet the quality of accommodation was dire. My room, on the 6th floor, was no more than three and a half feet wide, at its widest.

The room had neither a wardrobe nor even a chest of drawers or a shelf. There was no phone, so it was impossible to arrange for a wake-up call on the morning I left.

I do not begin to imagine how the Cordial maintains a three star rating.

The location is great and this is maybe the only positive note. The staff is not very friendly, yet polite. The room was clean enough, but the window was broken and we didn't get any help about that. Breakfast is ok, nothing special but not bad. The reason why I won't stay there again is that they have the most unconfortable beds I've ever slept in!!! (let alone the old "army style" blankets). Definitely not a good experience!

Top Local Tips for Amsterdam

Where to Stay Try not to stay in a hotel on the main street as the restaurants are extortionate, instead, try to stay around the liedseplein as it has great clubs bars and restaurants. Furthermore, the atmostphere in this area is better as at night the area around the red light district was a bit dodgy.

ranchos you have got to try this resturant the service is quick the waiters are friendly and the food is to die for try the ribs,just get 1 between the 2 of you because you get salad and chips aswell.loads of mcdonalds,kentucky and their is also a mr chippy

Candlelight Cruise We took the candlelight cruise for 21 EUR. There are cheaper canal cruises but this one has free wine, soda and cheese / cracker. It departs for the Rokin (on the canal) and with the company Kooij Rederij. From 9 till 11 we saw all the lights and enjoyed the sights of Amsterdam
