The Ajax was the worst hotel experience I ever hope to have. I would summarize their treatment of guests as unethical, dangerous, and inexcusably shabby. Here are some standout problems:
(1) The front of the toilet was placed so close to a bathroom wall that it was impossible for an average sized person to use it. Sitting on it sideways was extremely uncomfortable. We were effectively without the toilet facilities for which we had contracted.
(2) The hotel was under renovation (very badly needed), and there were constant paint fumes from workers in the next room as well as scaffolding outside our window. This is a material circumstance of which we should have been warned.
(3) The room was so small there was no place to put even one of our two average sized bags without blocking the very narrow routes from the bed to the door and from the bed to the bathroom, creating the risk of injury due to falling and an extremely hazardous condition in the case of fire. This was a joke of a hotel. Would not let my pet stay there it was that bad! No window view ( a brick wall we got instead), bad smell, no window in toilet, when booked on internet, it says one price, but when you get there it is different….it cost me £108 sterling to stay there. 2 star hotel! Would not give refund, don’t be deceived like I was, pictures of hotel…double room, we got 2 single beds pushed together. Bad staff. Just a complete rip off. Beware

Well what an experience we had at Hotel Ajax!! After you manage the climb to the reception area we were confronted with another steep incline to our room at the top of this building. We were surprised not to encouter any Yeti's or guides on this long journey. That said, it is in a great central location. A good find.

This hotel is one of the bests in the budget category. Not expensive, nice, in the center of the city, we had a great time there!

The hotel was reasonably clean and the staff friendly & helpful, but the decor was tatty, and several things in our room did not work - one bedside light (and there was little natural light as the window gave onto a dark side alley), the television remote control did not function (so volume could not be turned down from loud), shower head did not fix onto bracket. The room and shower room were tiny (not unexpected). Stairs very steep - again, not unexpected, but would have been impossible for anyone with walking difficulties. Breakfast (included) was very moderate and we felt we would have done better to eat out. But the hotel is in a good central location and (considering everything) not too noisy. Best suited to the young - not recommended to the mature or to family parties!
