Rooms let down Hotel in good location

I booked this hotel through a travel agent as a surprise Christmas present for my partner. As a 3 star hotel I expected the standards to be reasonably good. The reception area and bar were lovely and on arrival we thought what a lovely hotel. But our room let the hotel down. Although it was clean it was dingy and well worn, with torn chair covers, poor lighting, scuffed walls, stained ceiling and carpet and a terrible view over a courtyard full of rubbish. We were very disappointed to say the least. I would not recommend this hotel to any of my friends.

I chose this hotel for its great location and reasonable price. It's located adjacent to Rembrandt Square, which is lively with cafes, shops, and night clubs. The hotel is directly on the Amstel River and my second floor room had a bay window with a spectacular view of the city and the river. The room itself was of good size and clean, but in need of some refurbishment. The staff was friendly and there is a bountiful morning buffet served in the breakfast room. The location and great view more than compensated for any minor flaws.

I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights with my girlfriend in January, and I loved it. Im hoping to go back to Amsterdam soon, and will be staying in this hotel again. The rooms were clean (double beds were a little weird - 2 singles pushed together!) Nice View, and quite close to Dam Square. Didnt spend much time in the hotel as there is so much to do in Amsterdam, and its so beautiful you dont want to be inside! Wasnt very keen on the breakfast, but thats down to personal choice. Can take breadcakes away so you have food during the day! (as long as they dont find out...) I liked the lobby and the staff were very friendly. Concierge was helpful. Overall, I think this was value for money, and I will be going back!

Great location, not even a penny for the hotel

As soon as we arrive to Amsterdam, we went to the tourist office, the recomended me that hotel, I ask if it is OK, they tolde me it was. So I paid.
When we arrive, and saw the room, we wanted to leave, everithing was so uncharming, the bed was so bad and it was so dirty.

Looks are'nt everything! Do not be decieved as we were by their website. For a hotel that quotes non-smoking, its only on the 1st floor and god forbid you have to walk through the lobby to get there!!

Rooms were very basic, plain, not even a hot pot let alone a small fridge. There were blood stains on the curtain sheers, and no shower mat. DO ASK FOR ONE! Shower heads are in the middle of the tub instead of on one end, standing space is very narrow and shower curtains are too long and hang into the tub... so of course my Mom proceeds to slip and fall out onto the tile floor. Very dangerous! and front desk was not sympathetic at all.

Rates maybe a 2 star and the price of breakfast is not worth the 14Euros. Room itself was not worth the $115 euro per night at all!

Great location, bad hotel!

I requested a non smoking room, and got one, but the hall way out my door stunk like smoke. The smell still got into my room. The mattress should have been replaced years ago. The whole room smelled like mold/smoke. Breakfast was disapointing. On the positive side, the staff was great and very helpful. The location was great, easy walking to attractions, or just checking out the local neighborhoods.

We stayed at this hotel April 2004 and really enjoyed it. We found the staff very helpful. The room was quite big with a great view of the canal. However our friends also stayed here and were given a room on floor 1 and had a view of a wall. But thier room was nice and they also liked the hotel. It has a good location near all shops and not too far from central station. The bar was expensive (but so are most hotel bars), it had a really pleasant relaxing atmosphere which we enjoyed most nights. All in all we loved this hotel.

Worst Experience at a Hotel

When I booked this hotel I read all the reviews and it seemed okay, but when we got to the hotel it was awful, the room was dirty diorty dirty, burn holes in the carpet, dirt on the walls, no closet at all, towels so thin they could be seen through, the "non-smoking" room was terribly smoky, the bathroom smelled like it had been cleaned with a dirty cloth, and the bed was the worst I have ever slept on.

I expected small and that is what we got, but that wasn't an issue and the night club Sinners never bothered us (even with the window open) I just wasn't expecting the room to be in such disrepair - so unless you get a REALLY great rate (we paid 60 euro a night) look for a nicer place.

This hotel, overlooking one of the canals, provides a lovely view from its front rooms. We had a smoking room on the 5th floor, which was satisfactory. The staff was polite and provided the expected services.
The breakfast buffet was adequate and the dinner was better than we expected.

In the first week in February we had a 3 night stay at the Eden Hotel. This hotel had a fantastic location. Very freindly and efficient staff. Room overlooking the Amstel canal (River) (can be quite noisy with the early morning traffic 7-8am) Large spacious Rooms with en-suite. (No tea or coffee facilities) Good resteraunt and bar area. Secure luggage storage after check out, and excellent conseurge. The best hotel we have stayed in so far in by means of location and quality in Amsterdam, surely this is more than a 3-star?

Various members of the family have used this hotel for short breaks at different times of the year ad recommed it highly. It is extremely central and even if you dont want to walk, very close to tra stops as well. We occasionally had to wait a while for check-in or out but were very pleased with the facilities and helpfulness of the staff at all times. We wll return to it again!

My family and I have just come back from Amsterdam (children are 14 and 12 years old). We stayed at the Eden Hotel and I booked an apartment.
We were on the top floor - no lift so beware. We had 4 flights of stairs to negotiate which were very steep. The apartment (no 884) was on 2 floors and facilities were good - crockery, cutlery, glasses, toaster, kettle, fridge, hob and sink in the kitchen area, bathroom, table and chairs, sofas, TV and two bedrooms. It is a 3 star so nothing to write home about but would recommend particularly for a family with older children. Location is good also - half way between Centraal Station and the Rijksmuseum. Canalbus stop just over the canal at City Hall. 5 minute walk to the main pedestrian shopping street Kalverstraat and just round the corner from Rembrandtplein which is good for restaurants and bars in the evening - cinema also. Would recommend but don't expect luxury.

Top Local Tips for Amsterdam

Take the tram!!! The tram is the cheapest and fastest way to get around Amsterdam. Buy a single day pass or pay by the trip its up to you. When you first arrive, study the tram situation as it is the best way to get around amsterdam besides walking or riding bikes

Arriving by train This hotel is only a 15 mintues MAX walk frrom the train station. I walking to the hotel to save yourself a few bucks. It is a neat way to see the main street too!

Red light district!! you must go and see it at night! It is a totally different way of life. It took us about 15 minutes to walk to it from the hotel. There were loads of normal looking couples like us who were just going to see what it was all about! we also saw a few children with adults, but i'd suggest to go earlier with them when it isnt dark.
