The hotel was very central to everything situated on the main street and for the price was great. The hotel was clean all the beds were clean and the shower and toilet was also clean. The reception staff were polite and friendly. It was ideal for a weekend stay and I would go back to this hotel if I was to stay in Amsterdam again. The stairs were a bit tight and windy but that all added to the holiday.

Used to be a nice Spanish guy that owned this hotel. Great location and rooms OK for the price. Going back to Europe again in 2007 with my 28 year old son.... Rock On!! Amsterdam :)

We had a 3 person room which was barely a single, the single bed the mattress hung off the side with dirty sheets. The double was actually a 3 quarter. Location was the only good thing. The young Chinese man downstairs was a twat and lucky I didn't knock him out, apart from that the staff were nice. Flooded bathroom which you couldn't even turn around in, TV with 3 channels. Stairs are like climbing a mountain. Never go there; it's a rip-off for the money!!!!

Stayed for three nights in this hotel staff were very welcoming and friendly. the location was perfect just out the front door was the main street where all the action takes place it is within five minutes walk of central station and all major attractions the only draw back was the noise from the street we found it very difficult to sleep also the walls between rooms were paper thin so you could hear everything that was going on in the rooms around you as a result I would probably not stay here again

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Continental Centre Hotel in August 2004. This is a 2 star hotel which is situated on the main Damrak street in Amsterdam, leading to the Dam Square.

As soon as we arrived, we were made to feel welcome. I had accidently booked an extra night, as I had not taken our overnight ferry the previous day. The receptionist was very understanding about this. Although we did have to pay for the lost night before, they did not charge our card for a missed night.

The room was clean and well decorated. The view from the windows was of the alley and you could turn to see the Grasshopper coffee shop aswell as the path to the Red Light District.

We had our own bathroom which was very clean.

Although the hotel's breakfasts were very good value, the receptionist was selling water at 2 Euros per bottle. In the shops the same thing was about 70 cents.

Overall, our stay was excellent and we are trying to book there again for October!

Top Local Tips for Amsterdam

take the train The train ride from the airport was 20-25 min to Amsterdam cost 7.00 round trip. Make sure you get the round trip ticket and get it stamped before going back onthe train to airport. Once to Amsterdam see Victoria hotel walk towars it and cont down damrack to blue sign on main drag Continental Hotel. The children 18-22 years old loved this location.

schiphol to amsterdam walk downstairs in the airport and you're at the train station, buy your ticket before walking downstairs, 3.20 euros for a single, and within 20mins you're in amsterdam centraal. couldn't be easier

Trams in Amsterdam If youwant to get around buy a Strippenkart - if you are there for a while buy the more expensive one. Definitely don't pay each time you get on a tram, the Strippenkaart makes much better value for money. The only problem is the confusing stamping system. If you can go to the conductor. If not you stamp every second box - most trips in Amsterdam are one zone, so you stamp the second box - only the dutch! If there are two of you you can use the same strip just stamp the next box but one for the second person and so on. You also get an hour from the time which shows on the stamp to transfer to other trams and buses etc. Hopefully the chippenkart system which is coming will be easier --it is a card you top up whch will probably be better value than single journey payments as well and willbe used for all transport.
