Buy 'Im Amsterdam This card can save you a lot on transportation and museums, and it includes 2 free canal boat trips. You need to plan ahead which museums are you going to see. Most of museums are open till 5 pm. Van Gogh museum is open till 10 pm on Friday. Card includes a free use of trams and busses, but not a tram. I bought a cars at the travel office just across of the main train station. You will have a travel book included with a purchase of the card. You can buy a curd for 24/48/72 hours.

Transport in Amsterdam Never take a taxi. They are so expensive. Just buy a 'strippencard' for the tram. It's about E7,- and you can have 7 rides with it...The easiest way to see the city is by bike. So go to the Bicycle hotel, because you can rent bicycles there. Very handy!

Anne Frank House - avoid the line! If possible, book in advance for the Anne Frank House if you're planning to go. The line-up when we went was extremely long and slow-moving (prime tourist season during the summer). Because we had reserved tickets online, we skipped the line and got in with no wait.
