Wasn't sure if the reports were true, but some were receptionist was a grumpy old man, the rooms were dirty had to put the top sheet over the matress to stop any bugs. The floors were filthy. The shower didn't work, the fan in our room kept us awake because of the noise of it looked as if was going to fall of! But however the food was good, with all inclusive you get free food and drink all day but otherwise wouldn't goe back to this hotel, but would consider going back to Malta.

This hotel is the dirtiest we have ever stayed in. Our room was dirty on arrival and remianed so throughout our 2 weeks there. No cleaning by staff, beds not changed for over a week, terrible problems with toilet that would not flush and then flooded our room. Public areas are also shabby and dirty. I would go back to Malta again but not this hotel. Maltese people are very friendly and helpful and there are some lovely places to see and visit.

Me and my boyfriend arrived at the hotel in the middle of the night we checked in and were given our room as we made our way up to the second floor via the lift some one had crossed out the numbers and changed them all around so we ventured 2 floors before finding our room, my boyfriend then tried repeatedly to open the door to our room but had no luck. He then left me alone in the corridor with our cases while he went to get help he returned 10 minutes later with a grumpy old man who was part of the staff and we later named him Hercules. when we entered our room we thought that the nightmare had begun I hovered to go for a wee as the toilet seat was by far the dirtiest wed ever seen, the beds were dirty and our balcony door was located round a corner from where the beds were meaning there was very little light in the room we were gutted but tried to remain cheerful. the following morning we asked to be changed rooms and this happened immediately with no problems we had the same problem with the second door but I was lucky enough to bump in to the maintenance man and he was friendly and taught me how to use the door this room was much better and we agreed if this had have been the first one we would have never complained. The pool was clean and there was a range of depth for all ages and we enjoyed spending a late afternoon swim together as all of the children had gone for tea and there was mainly just us in the pool. We stayed bed and breakfast in the hotel and personally, I found it to be not very appetising at all although my boyfriend seemed to manage a few sausages in the morning. The main bars and restaurants were a short walk from the hotel and it was a very pleasant place to go of a night time although the people of Malta sometimes seemed ignorant and rude a consistently throughout our holiday chose to stop in the street ways and talk while you waited on the path for a while waiting to keep walking. The paths were also very slippery and dangerous and the drivers in Malta were quite happy to beep at people in the road but not slow down. As a 17 year old travel and tourism student on a first holiday alone with my boyfriend I would not rate the accommodation as 3 star and would put it as maybe only a 2 although we did find it to be very relaxing and we made it fun our selves it was worth what we paid as we got it as a last minute deal for only £280pp but personally if I had paid anymore I would have been rather upset the other guest were polite and we made a few friends but I would not return to the hotel anytime in the future. (For those reading the reviews after you have booked don't panic you will have a pleasant holiday)

Just returned from a one week all inclusive stay at the San Anton - sister hotel of Santa Maria. Got good deal from Chevron at £179 pp and good flights with BA. Hotel accommodation not bad but cleaners could do better. Food okay for price paid. Informed hotel being pulled down in Oct this year so staff not really motivated. However met lots of nice people and had an extremely nice holiday. Its what you make of it, if you go around with a long face, you won't enjoy yourself. Make the most of late deals and you'll enjoy yourself like we did.

Didn't know what to expect after reading some reviews, but we found the staff extremely helpful and polite, meals great, good choice of all inclusive drinks, our room was huge (2 king size beds) definitely the best value for money we have had for a last minute cheapie, and would gladly pay more for the service we experienced. Couldn't believe entertainment and a cinema were included, we were well satisfied and would go back.

Drab, shabby hotel apartments

We were appalled by the state of these apartments. They were shabby, the curtains and bed linen had holes in them and they were just so basic and grotty. We were moved to the Santa Maria which was marginally better but the deputy and general manager were unhelpful and the deputy manager was extremely rude to us.

I suppose staying there in the hottest week ever made the absence of Air-Con very noticeable - but we got used to drone of the ceiling fan - and the arguments in the street outside at 3.00am. Did not get used to the school dinner cooking - or the mould in the shower and the never-cleaned toilet rim. And when I asked about being served bottled water a week past it's use-by-date, I was told "No, that's the date the water was bottled". Full marks for inventiveness, but no marks for service. Shame really - it was cheap but never again - Malta, yes but we'll go for a bit more up-market.

Stayed from 25th October for 1 week. Good value for money, but staff (more than 75%) did not reflect how friendly and helpful the Maltese people are. Stayed all inclusive and were treated like second class citizens on many occasions, at one time having the bar closed in our faces, even though there was a quarter of an hour to go and we hadn't been in the hotel at all that day (so were certainly not abusing the system). Have stayed at another hotel 8 years previously also on all inclusive basis and were certainly treated a lot better. Don't rely on early morning calls from reception either! Wouldn't go back to this hotel but would return to Malta, as a first time on the Island this hotel could well put you off. There are also some English staff in hotel, except for one lady who worked in the restaurant, they were also unhelpful and unfriendly.

the bed rooms have had better days and could do with a bit of a re ferb, having said that for £430 for two half board all in it was very good value, the pool area was pleasant, staff in the main were helpful and friendly (except the chefs)but the food again in the main quite acceptable, I would have liked the cleaners to have had a bit more training as the floors in the bed room was very dirty and let the hotel down and was so easy to rectify.

The cleanliness in this hotel leaves a lot to be desired. We were only there for one week, and never had the bedlinen changed once. One towel each per day, but no hand towels. The menu in the restaurant which was taken over the road in the Santa Maria was vertually the same every day. We stayed all inclusive, but all snacks had to come from the Santa Maria, as the restaurant in the San Anton was closed. The pool area was never cleaned, or tables wiped. The staff however remained pleasant, and always tried to be helpful. We got the impression, they were trying to run this hotel on a shoestring. Every activity for children was cancelled, even though there were quite a number in the hotel. However the evening entertainment was excellent. I would not stay at this hotel again, but I would certainly go back to Malta.

Top Local Tips for St. Pauls Bay

public transport the buses are brilliant and you are able to get anywhere

Buses are great Although we hired a car and saw lots of the island, the buses are an experience not to be missed, cheap and relibale and a free bus map is available from the tourist information centre in Valetta,

Go to Comino I would use Captin morgan to book all boat trips, very nice. The trip to comino and the blue lagoon was great!
