We decided on Malta for a first time holiday for my hubby, he has fallen in love and is planning on moving us all out there. The San Anton was exceptional value for money, we paid around 150 each for half board in june and got a fabulous service, the staff were friendly, pleasant and more than willing to help. The hotel was smartly presented and clean, the food was out of this world with a wide variety of local dishes as well as dishes from around the world. If I could recommend this hotel to anyone I would and have done so already. Please take time to visit this wonderful but understated hotel.

Everything about this hotel was fine. The food was excellent and the room very good with a very good maid service. I can not understand the adverse reviews from 1999 unless the hotel has had a huge revamp since then. We are going to book again for next year with confidence. By the way I heard not one complaint from anyone all the time I was there. EXCELLENT!!
Staff can't be bothered. Poor Hotel

The hotel is really run down with the only place having air conditioning is the reception area. The balcony was not cleaned once while we stayed there during our weeks holiday and the ceiling fan, hanging by a thread did no good to cool the air in the room. Some of the staff were awful - it tended to be the younger members of staff who just couldn't be bothered. We would ask the reception for a token for the internet or an icebox and the answer was always "oh, come back in 15 minutes there is a shift change" They constantly ran out of things that we wanted to hire (such as towels, ice packs, remotes for the TV) and would tell US to go and get more from the hotel next door!!! The bar service was terribly slow. Think it is to save money on those who have paid for all inclusive. We heard bar staff complaining that people were "leaving half of their drinks" and they decided to reduce the cup size to compensate...sure enough the next day ask for a diet coke and you got a cup that held a mouthful! WOuld not go back to this hotel. Yes it was a cheap deal but basic hygiene and service should really be expected. The cleaners never bothered changing our towels and when they forgot to give us more toilet roll we had to phone 4 times to get them to bring more up.

We stayed here in 1999. The whole place was very run down. The complex resembled a prison block. Built in a square shape, so all the noise echoed around. The lifts were broken (for the whole week we were staying there) and the doors were being held together with sellotape! The rooms were very basic and dated (70s) and were painted in a pukey orange. There was never any hot water and when the water did come out of the tap, it just trickled out. The rail on the verandah was broken and loose. There was noise every night into the early hours. Luckily, we had the sense to hire a car and explore the island and only sleep there, spending no time at all around the pool. Malta itself was interesting, Valetta was beautiful (like Venice) and the food, which was mainly Italian, was superb. Make sure you take a trip to Gozo, where you will find near empty beaches in October. As a budget holiday destination, Malta is fine, but make sure you pick a better hotel.

The St Anton proved an excellent value for money, the accommodation, food and entertainment was better than we expected. I would suggest a upgrade in star rating, as this Hotel excceded some 4 star Hotels we have stayed in. I have no hesitation in recommending this Hotel to other holiday makers. My compliments to the management who were always available to answer any queries, which I'm sure are relatively few.

Top Local Tips for St. Pauls Bay

public transport the buses are brilliant and you are able to get anywhere

Buses are great Although we hired a car and saw lots of the island, the buses are an experience not to be missed, cheap and relibale and a free bus map is available from the tourist information centre in Valetta,

Go to Comino I would use Captin morgan to book all boat trips, very nice. The trip to comino and the blue lagoon was great!
