One Of The Worst Hotels I Have Stayed In!!

As I was looking forward to this holiday in Malta for a long time The Karanne Hotel was a big disappointment. The pool filthy dirty, food the same every morning, and having to wait one hour 30 minutes each day if you wanted lunch from the pool bar. Also because of the dead gloomy dark atmosphere in the hotel we had to go across to another hotel for entertainment in the evenings. It felt like pure depression every time we entered the hotel. I really do not know how this is rated 4*.

The Karenne was a strange experience. Very poorly cleaned, dark reception, a kind of empty soviet atmosphere in the "restaurant", terrible breakfast, acceptable evening meal, awful music constantly playing, dripping from the AC above the toilet - we finally asked for an umbrella - the room poorly (an late) cleaned, broken door to the wardrobe, misleading information on every question you asked - many maltese people pretend and even think they speak and understand english, but they don´t. A staff politely answering to every question and complaint, but nothing ever happens. Consider yourself fooled. Dissapointed Dissapointed

Not the staffs fault. Meals terrible. Out door pool not in use. Bathroom substandard. Stale smell of smoke as you walked in first time. I have never walked out of a hotel.

The hotel was basic. The food was not up to much. The female receptionist was very pleasant and helpful, the maintainance man who fixed our bathroom plumbing on the first day was very good also. The indoor pool smelled of drains so we did not use it the rooftop pool closed.the bar /coffee shop was okay.we would not stay there again. We would rate it 2 star on a good day.

1st time to Malta & loved it. wonderful/freindly people. The Karanne hotel met all our expectations, clean room, acceptable food, lovely pool area & freindly staff, The only pit-fall was the moaning british holiday makers who expect the creme de la creme for bargain prices. I would reccomend the Karanne to anyone & have done so since our return. After all you get what you pay for & i had more than a cheap bargain holiday. Count us in for this September 2008.

10 Days in the Hotel was only spoilt by "poor" Evening Meals, the quality of which improved only on the last 2 Evenings following the arrival of an Excellent XChef. I would return as the location and Stakk were ideal

Malta itself is a lovely island and we would definitely go back. However, this hotel is another story. We have stayed in a number of hotels of various star ratings and, having read the reviews, were apprehensive about this 4 star hotel. They were absolutely right. This has got to be the worst we have stayed in. The receptionists were the best part of it and were constantly fending off complaints. Reception was always dark (one receptionist was told off by the owner because the lights had been put on 15 minutes too early). The Casanova pub was closed. The poolside bar was closed (if you wanted drinks or food you had to ring Jamies Cafe to order - 8 floors below!) The "restaurant" was half open, the rest in darkness. The restaurant staff were sullen, with no greeting other than "what is your room number". The food was boring and mainly cold with a lack of decent choice, particularly in the evening. The fried eggs for breakfast were about the best food going, as long as you got them when they came out of the kitchen. The courier, from Malta Bargains, was only to be seen when she was doing her bit for the new people and even then she had to rush off from ours because she had another hotel to go to, which was obviously more important. Now to the room (No. 240). It was quite large, with a large bathroom. That was the only good point. When we opened the curtains we faced concrete walls on 2 sides and the 3rd side was the patio doors of another room. The outside area was about 10 feet square and was the patio area of the other room, so we had to keep our curtains drawn all the time. On the first day the shower curtain fell down. Later, on 2 consecutive nights, there was water dripping from the ceiling. This turned out to be a problem with the air conditioning and dripped through the night. The maintenance man and reception were very good in trying to get it sorted and eventually it was fixed. We were shown 2 rooms to change to and declined both as they appeared worse than what we had. The towels were changed daily, but the bed linen was not changed in the whole week we were there. The floors were dirty and on one occasion the sink looked as though it had been cleaned with a dirty, greasy cloth as there was black scum marks left after it had been "cleaned" and we had to scrub to remove them before washing. The owner was there most of the time but only seemed interested in propping up the small bar in Jamie's. Totally lacking in atmosphere. In closing we would say that with the right vision this could be a truly good 4 Star hotel, but currently I wouldn't give it 2.

Worst Hotel ever

The Hotel was the worst we have ever stayed in. Don't bother with the evening meal unless you like stale bread and poor food, Breakfast was a joke if you are sad enough to use this hotel then take your own cup and get a flask for tea or coffee as they run out of all the above. The pool area has no sunshades or mattresses. The hotel is dark gloomey and very poor the view across the rooftops from the postage stamp size veranda is breathtaking with so many washing lines. Get real get a life and don't go.

OK as a 3 star hotel

This hotel should be graded in my opinion as a 3star hotel. the potential is there with the right management team to boost their staffs morale and training this should be a 4 star hotel. The location is perfect but the Karaoke everynight, singing the same songs, really did loose alot of customers. Travelling with my children meant we needed rooms close by unfortunately this led to my children having a wonderful room with a balcony and the only other room close by was a pokey, dark, with a balcony facing a brick wall room. My rating goes to the dedicated staff who seem to stick by the hotel and seem to be able to deal with all the complaints quite calmly (obviously they are now quite versed in their replies). Malta itself was lovely and would love to return.
