Rooms not cleaned daily due to short staff Sheets creased on arrival not sure if they were clean but very grey. Room was dirty and when cleaned it was with dirty cloths and you could not see much difference when they had finished. No water on the 6th floor on an evening. Nice view from balcony. We booked half board breadfast cereal and sliced english bread toasted everything else inedible. All very sloppy no saucers for cups service terrible tables wiped with dirty cloth that smelled that dirty dishcloth smell.UGH. Evening meal stuck that out for 2 nights very school dinnerish no atmosphere same every night. Ate out the rest of the week. Staff grumpy and did not seem to know anything. No lights on in reception very dark. Crumbs and bits on all the carpets and stairwells. Lifts working but very dirty. The Hotel is a very grand building and in a very good location. With the correct management and more staff and a complete overall this could be a truly wonderfull hotel. The swimming pool was a good size and wonderfull views over Malta but there was a scum line round the sides all week which made me believe that the pool had not been cleaned out. Malta was a wonderfull place and i really enjoyed my holiday and hope to go back one day but i will not be staying at the Karanne Hotel. I only wonder why i did not take any notice of the reviews i had read do not make my mistake.

We booked up to stay in a different hotel, but on arrival we were informed that they had no room, even though we'd booked well in advance! We were therefore moved to the Karanne. On arrival, we thought, "wow, we have really got a good deal here". However, looks can be deceiving and unfortunately they were. The reception, although aesthetically pleasing, was constantly dark. The games in the games area did not work properly, almost half of the reception area was taken up by a second À la carte restaurant area, which I did not see used once for our entire stay, as was the Casanova Pub (next to reception) - a complete waste of space! The food in the restaurant was just recycled night after night. For the evening meals, think of old school dinners, poor canteen food, over-cooked food served in grease/water. Toast and cereal are the only edible items at breakfast. The restaurant had a policy that you could not take your own drinks in at meal times,(which we had decided to do after the first night because service was so bad). They took so long to come and take a drink order that you had basically finished your meal (all 3 courses) before they approached to you with their order pad. The staff we came across were extremely over-worked; to work in the hospitality industry, I feel you need to be either friendly or efficient, ideally both - most of the staff at the Karanne are neither. However, the staff at Jamie's Cafe (attached to the Karanne) and the supermarket next door were both efficient and extremely friendly. It's a shame these qualities didn't spill over into the Karanne! We had to request a room change after the first day because our air conditioning didn't work, our wardrobe door was broken and therefore useless and every time you opened the bathroom door from the inside, it fell off! Our view was of the staff quarters, there was a birds nest with birds squarking for food as soon as it got light, which echoed. If you're a light sleeper, don't expect to get any sleep! When we were eventually moved, the rooms were a lot better, (a working fan, working wardrobe and no handles falling off), but there were birds nests on the other side of the hotel as well and the second room wasn't all that clean either! The only entertainment are a couple of karaoke singers that sing outside Jamie's Cafe. They were absolute torture to your ears! Many people walking or driving past would grimace or put their fingers in their ears at the sound of these voices. Yet they returned night after night - bizarre! I would not recommend anyone to stay here, it ruins your overall view of Malta, which is a nice country. The Karanne is supposed to be a 4* hotel, but it would be lucky to scrape a 2*

My boyfriend and I booked an allocation on arrival holiday to Malta and were extremely pleased to have been put at the Karanne. we were impressed by the cleanliness throughout, the excellent location, as it is close to the harbour, and the stunning views from the rooftop pool. however, the food could have been of better quality, and also there was no evening entertainment. but seeing as we were looking for a cheap getaway, we got what we paid for.

We went there for our honeymoon and looked at all the reviews before we went. We have never heard so much rubbish in our lives. Yes, I did email before I went to ask for upgrade (used to work in hotels and travel industry) and they provided us with one. We had a fab room on 3rd floor looking above the lobby area but had the sun most of the day. Hardly any kids and most were well behaved. Pool was lovely and warm and quiet most of the time. Food was just what we were looking for, quick, easy and tasty - different to England anyway! We would def go back there again - we absolutely loved it. Staff were friendly and my attitude is if you want something ask or dont moan about it not being given! - if you dont ask you dont get! I asked if they had any books to read and they had a whole basket. We loved Malta so very different and lovely to be outside at night and still be warm. We went to sightsee and also have a comfortable cool room to go back to - this was definately achieved. I dont know what the hell people are moaning about on here!

Last minute & very expensive 2 week break over Christmas & New Year season (usually pay less for 4 weeks). Never have we experienced a hotel so cold. We both came back extremely ill and in need of antibiotics due to catching colds. The temperature at night was freezing due to lack of heating. Even my insulin froze in the syringe pen! Managers view was that heating was unnecesary! Also treated as second class citizens as Maltese had monopoly on hotel for the festivities, we were banished to outer cafe bar instead of restaurant for our meals. NEVER AGAIN!!!

Being the first time going to Malta the Karanne Hotel was rubbish and they say they are a 4 star hotel.
The reception area is nice but the rooms are dirty with stained sheets broken cupboards mouldy bathrooms, dirty swimming pool on the roof-black with scum. The food was horrible there wasn't a range of different foods just the same boring thing for breakfast dinner was nasty there.
Take my advice and NEVER STAY AT THE KARANNE HOTEL IT IS RUBBISH!!!!!!!(HONEST)I went with two of my friends and we all Thought the same thing what kind of 4 star hotel is this. There is only ten staff who cater for the hotel and the act like they are out of this world dumb people them!!!

Malta is beautiful but The Karanne Hotel was absolutely disgusting. For your own good please take mine, my nephews and my friends advice: "Never ever stay in this Hotel!". The service is dire, the food is not edible and only fit for pigs, the rooms are dirty, dated and falling apart. No way a 4* hotel - its the worst hotel I have ever stayed in.

Noway is this a 4star. Breakfast saw rubber fried eggs. Fruit was tinned fruit cocktail, which was fizzy (ie going off). We booked half board, but could only stand 2 nights then ate out. Evening meals choice included Chicken Nuggets, Plaice in yelllow breadcrumbs. Piped music every where, mostly Mariah Carey. Bar is Karaoke pub. Everywhere smells of smoke. Malta was great, but don't stay here!

I stayed in this Hotel with my aunty and a friend and we thought that it would be a nice hotel how wrong could we be!! There was about 10 staff there to look after about 50 people. The waitress in the coffee shop was, putting it nicely. DUMB!!!
In the dinner room flies and ant infested the melon, probably the chef's idea of protein. When I saw that it was a 4 Star hotel unable to contain myself I exclaimed "4 star hotel my black bum cheek!" Seriously do not come here.

I would not recommend this hotel even to my worse enemy. The apartment was shabby and sub standard for 4 adults. The fitness centre equipment was either not working or adaptable if you only possess one limb. There also appears to be total disruption to the electricity supply when using cooking appliances and the fridge doesn't even work properly.
The staff did not seem bothered,and the manager just 'didn't give a damn. Thank God that we did not eat at the resturant......as we might not live to tell the tale. DO NOT STAY HERE!!!!!
