Having stayed in other 5* hotels in the area we were not disappointed with the InterCont. The hotel staff were particularly friendly and helpful. A modern, spacious hotel the InterCont makes the very best of its' area. On the downside, there is a very small beach and the pool is not as lovely as the San George nor is the spa as large. This said, we had a lovely time and have already booked for next year. The hotel has all the facilities you would expect for a 5* and booking direct is well worth doing for a good rate. Unlike other hotels in the area, the InterCont has numerous restaurants and the food is lovely, particularly the restaurant on the beach. If you can it is worth upgrading to a Club room for the extras and do ask for a garden/pool room as rooms on the other side of the hotel overlook a busy road and clubbing area. St Georges Bay is much nicer than Paceville, but be aware that in the summer young students and Maltese club in the area just minutes from the area and it is quite loud. Having said that, we felt totally safe and it was nice to see so many people enjoying a good time. There are plenty of restaurants and bars in walking distance and just accross the road is a conveniant shopping mall.

Heaven in a Hotel
from AusieBird
Cannot fault this hotel. The staff are extremely helpful. Sent them emails before arriving asking them to book restaurants and excursions and every single one of our requests was met and with a pleasant email. It's conveniently located close to shops, the beach and the nightlife area. We had a brilliant room which overlooked the pool and the beach. It was immaculate and tidy. Really wouldn't want to stay anywhere else in Malta.
great place for short trip
from megnick
The IC Saint-Julians is a modern resort-like hotel, opened in 2003, with lots of facilities (pools, sports school, beauty-parlor, restaurants and bars) in a sometimes noisy and crowded neighbourhood. Paceville, the quarter at the back of the hotel, is the domain of the young on Malta, with lots of bars, disco's etc. On the hotel-premises sometimes the sounds of the nights can be heared. We stayed 8 nights in a well-kept clean room on the 8th floor with a small balcony, good beds and a nice bathroom. There are 46 rooms on the street-sight. If they're offered do ask for an alternative one. Had a good time, though services werent up to 5 star standards.
Best in Malta

I can't say anything bad about this place really. I stayed in the Hilton for two nights before checking out because I felt so let down and ripped off by the inflated room rates.
A stroll down to the Intercontinental bagged me an executive room on the Club Intercontinental floor, enjoying great views over the pool and St Julian's Bay beyond for 15LM (around 23GBP) LESS than my standard room at the Hilton.
If you enjoy spotless public areas, Villeroy and Boch crockery, great service, thick duvets to sleep in and modern, smart decor that's neither chintzy or overdone you'll enjoy the Intercontinental.

Pleasure by the Pool
from kittkat
We stayed for week at the IC and it was very nice - breakfast buffet was good and the service acceptable.
We basically lived by the pool which is quite nice as there is always a stong breeze and this helps with the intense sun. Just get there by 10:00am for a good spot. Pool-side service is good and the drinks are well made. Lunch at the restaurant is finshed by 2:00 pm but they will bring up from the kitchen if you want something later.
Best bet at night is to head to Spinola Bay and dine at one of the resaturants in the area - there is a really nice Italian seafood place over looking the bay - make reservations or come by at 10:30 and you will have table on the balcony - La Dolce Vita - street entranceup stairs- go for the Isis Chardonnay pefect chill.
The fitness area at IC is great with an excellent selection of machines and free weights - ( I've only seen better in California) they have a climbing wall, an excellent spinning class, squash, aerobics etc. and work out bags.
For 4-5 days of nothing but sun, food and pool IC is perfect

InterContinental in Malta - Fantastic Hotel

The Intercontinental in St George's Bay in St Julian's is wonderful. We spent 8 nights their and loved it. The staff were all brilliant and extremely attentive. We were upgraded to an apartment within the Eden Bay Resort which was a nice surprise. Its 20mins from the airport and the hotel will send a taxi for you, their drivers are extremely friendly and will give you lots of advise.
The outdoor pool/indoor pool are good and the Cynergie gym is the best I've ever seen, its enormous and full of all types of equipment.
Its in a perfect location, 2 mins walk from the bay which the hotel are currently building on so they will have their own beach in a few months. You can walk to Spinola Bay in 5 mins, which has lovely restaurants for your evening meals. Clubs and bars are right round the corner from the hotel, but they did not inconvinience us at all. All the main buses to the main attractions in Malta stop a couple of roads behind the hotel, the Concierge can help you with this.

really enjoyed our stay

Although this hotel is set back so no sea views, it is an excellent comfortable hotel. Worth asking for rooms facing sun so you can sit on balcony.
Rooms overlook nice garden areas as well as pool. The staff are friendly and the rooms good. Definitely worth getting executive rooms with all day use of executive lounge. Only minus was the hotel food. Apart from fantastic breakfasts the other meals were not really up to a 4 star hotel.

Why not elsewhere in Malta ?

We stayed there for 4days (3 nights). Unfortunately due to peak period we had no chance of changing hotel. Negative points: 1.Buffet food. Dreadful. No respect to the client with cold dishes, scrammbled eggs without taste etc. 2.Venue.Unless you're under 18 searching for non-stop clubbing you cannot stay in the area due to so many night clubs, bars just around the corner. 3. Room service. We ordered iced coffee and they brought french instant coffee with icecubs!!!. 4.Cleaning services. Didnot empty the bin in the bathroom but after 2 days. Positive points: 1. Rooms. Nice, comfortable, spacious with really king size beds. 2. Reservation desk. Accurate, speedy with excellent command of English. 3. Swimming pool. Big-sized with many umbrellas and sun-chairs.
It will be very difficult that this hotel is going to be a 5 stars for a long time. It's more similar to 4+ stars.

Well , it was OK !
from Topcat24
Just been to the Intercontinental -- 5 star but , frankly , not 5 star service , especially from the staff at breakfast ( do they always really avoid making eye contact with their clients ! ) . A good hotel let down badly by letting standards slip -- at the sort of prices the hotel charges , I expected better.
Very convenient

Stayed for Christmas 2004, excellent suite. The club lounge very good and drinks and snacks available all day, however evening snacks not that plentiful. Service excellent, Christmas day buffet lunch superb. Also, lobby lounge salad bar lunch excellent. Extremely convenient location, close walk to all connections for Malta, hotel is next door to the cinema and shopping complex.
A wonderful hotel

Me and my family (wife and 2 children 2 & 6) were there at the end of october 2004.
Very nice hotel in a modern style, not a big tower but lots of grounds (sort of ground floor at level n°7 with a big garden).
Deluxe room : very beautiful and spacious, very clean, terrace, shower & bath
3 restaurants : one with buffet for beakfast & dinner, varied and varying.
Kind staff. Nice indoor and outdoor swimming pools.

Top Local Tips for St. Julians
Use the bus service Remember that the Maltese Lira is expensive so taxis that seem 'cheap' at £10 Maltese punds are more like £14 UK pounds
Under age drinking Did you know that the legal age for buying and consuming alcohol in Maltese bars is 16? This has some '+' and some '-' but we were pleasantly suprised overall. Our kids can't wait to go!!
busy lots of night clubs and nightlife on the hotel doorstep - but all quiet and calm inside the hotel.
