Terrible experience

We booked the hotel through the internet, and got 5% off the ordinary price. The hotel looked great on the pictures, and showed a swimming pool and made a good impression as a four star hotel. We were looking forward to it after some busy days at a conference. The prices turned out to be sky high considered the quality at the hotel. You had to pay deposit to get a remote control to the tv in your room, which you pay for. And they don't have enough remotes anyway. The location was not to bad. Not far from Sliema down town. The rooms were also terrible. They smelled of mildew and water flooded all over the floor when taking a shower. The air conditioning smelled like gasoline, and the staff turned on music in the halls at seven a.m, that woke us up two days in a row. The staff was the worst. No help, no service and once we complained, nothing was being done, and no apologies given. I have to rate this as my worst experience ever. The breakfast was also a dissapointment, considering this was supposed to be a four star hotel. The stars should be revised again. It's not a hotel I would recommend while visiting Malta.

Where not to stay

Location perfect - hence the 2. Food - little choice, lacking in imagination (mash potatoes, mouldy bread). Staff underpaid (and months in arrears, some rude, mostly untrained, lacking managagement - except for bar manager. All inclusive - hardly any stock, some nights no basics (tonic, draught lager, and a full range of spirits - got the feeling they were not paying suppliers and as their first year of all inclusive did not appreciate consequence of what it might cost! Cleanliness - depends which cleaner you get, some lazy (again result no doubt of poor pay) - one guest vacuumed own room. Our ultimate night - 50 French schoolchildren arrived 10.30 pm - not allocated their rooms until midnight when most guests in bed - needless to say noisy kids, doors slamming etc. This is only part of what could have been a disaster had it not been for fellow guests staying there who made the stay bearable. Tour operator Mercury Direct provided little service.

We could not fault the hotel. All the staff were very helpful, the food was good, plentiful, and the variety was excellent. The only thing we found wrong, some of the guests looked very miserable!!!

The staff were friendly and very helpful. The rooms were clean, comfortable and well furnished. The breakfast offered good choices and the live entertainment was good.

Recommended for teenager travellers only

I would not be too eager to recommend this hotel. Service wise, expect something in the range of a two-stars hotel. Location is convenient as it is a few minutes away from the sea. Rooms are small and not adequately lit, however reasonably clean. Hotel is full of teenager travelers that get extremely noisy it is practically impossible to sleep some nights. I tried changing the hotel on the second day of our arrival but all the hotels in the area were fully booked. If you're planning on spending any waking hours at the hotel, then this is not the one to book.

We picked the Windsor at random from a net booker - what great value! Clean, friendly, helpful staff, comfortable, well located, food good (good breakfast buffet!). Great facilities - 2 pools, sauna, jacuzzi, gym - all for £33 for 3 nights each! Can't understand negative reviews - what do people want for their money??

Excellent value for no frills friendly hotel

Booked at short notice on the internet for a 4 night November 2006 break. Price 20 Maltese lira per night for a double room with two breakfasts. Friendly staff and all basic facilities from rooftop indoor and outdoor pools and jacuzzi down to lobby coin-operated internet service. Rooms basic but clean with essential facilities. Not a 4-Star hotel by any UK or International standards that I know from world travel - but superb value if you think of it as a 2-3 Star hotel with extra facilities. If you get a good 2-3 Star price then enjoy the experience but don't expect 4-Star hotel and certainly don't pay 4-Star prices.

We booked our holiday with Thomas Cook and thought we had booked the nearby Preluna Hotel, but we were send to the Windsor Hotel. The staff were not friendly, the rooms were extremely dirty e.g.: dust everywhere, worn out beds, noisy airco, bathroom facilities dating from... 1950ies??? The food was not good, unless you like rotten fruit and dry meat... Please don't book this hotel, it's a total rip off!!!

You will be dissapointed if you think this is a 4* hotel

We booked our holiday through Neckermann, and we thought we had booked the nearby Preluna Hotel as it was mentioned that way on our contract. But no, they did send us to the Windsor Hotel… There were lots of noisy East European teenagers who were visiting Malta for a language course (and who obviously celebrated the fact that they were not accompanied by any adults). Also there were a lot of older (+ 65) people. And there were we: 4 Flemish families with young children (11-15 year). I had not at all the impression that one of the staff members was enjoying his or her job. The mattress on the bed was worn-out, even as the other furniture in your room. The balcony is very very small, it’s not possible to put 3 chairs on it. If you get a look out of your window, you get depressed because you look into the rooms of an other hotel on the other side of the narrow street (only 4 meters away from your room). In the bathroom there were rust spots everywhere (behind the toilet, behind the washbowl). The taps were not shining at all, the airco is very noisy, the swimming pool is to small for the hotelroom capacity, there were not enough seats and parasols at the pool, the children lost their beach ball a few times because it flew over the fencing (that was only 1 meter high and only 2 meters next to the swimming pool). The swimming pool is at the top floor. The elevators were not working very well, so you had to wait and wait and wait … The quality of the food was very poor, and there was no variation (day 1: swordfish and chicken, day 2: swordfish and chicken, day 3: swordfish and something they named ‘duck’, but everybody was convinced it was chicken again, day 4 ….). Although I have to admit that there was variation in the method of preparation: one time it was grilled, than it was coocked, than it was backed. They did not fill up your minibar, even if you asked for it, there was hardly no entertainment program, the bar was small (I think there could be at maximum 20 people in it, although the hotel has a lager capacity of guests). Summarizing: If you think of it as a moderate outdated 3* hotel that urgently needs an update, then you will not be disappointed. If you think you are going to enjoy your holiday in a nice 4* hotel, Windsor will be your nightmare!

Small and Friendly but not Four Stars

I have recently spent a week at this hotel. It is ideally located for the sea front, the shops and the buses to Valetta or St Julians Bay. The staff are friendly and helpful. However I was disappointed with the facilities as the hotel is advertised as 4 star. The rooms are old and tired and in need of modernising. There's a small lounge/bar with infrequent entertainment. The meals are poor if you don't like meat and two veg. It was especially tricky for me as a vegetarian although I found out on my last day they do a veggie menu but only if you ask everyday. Many of the holidaymakers I met go back here year after year because it is a nice hotel and if you think of it as a 3 star standard you will not be disappointed.
