My wife and myself walked in after booking into an awful hotel further down the road over the net. The manager went out of his way to accomodate us, sure the facilities are basic but this is a travel destination. The staff were great and the room incredibly spacious with a great view. Excellent value for money and we are going back this year.

My wife and child stayed for 2 weeks in March. I have never been charged for tv before but we were asked for 1 m lire per day(there were no film, music or sports channels);after 1 day I returned the remote control and did without. However the view is great if you get a room facing the sea front. Location is excellent with a bus stop right outside(only 20 cents to Valletta). For nightlife Paceville is only 5 minutes away by bus but there is a good bar virtually next door to the hotel. Going in March it was still a bit chilly, about 13 -16 centigrade but when the sun was shining the weather was perfect. At nightime we attempted to turn the heating on but only cold air came from the unit. The thermostat appeared to be working but we were very cold for a few nights. I dont like to complain so we suffered in silence but maybe the hotel did not have the heating supply turned on. The two single beds were awful. You could feel the springs poking through; I had to put my blanket over the bed to lessen the discomfort. In the morning we would wake up with aching backs. So, because we had no tv, had a cold room we would go out during the day only to return to eat and sleep. Oh, I did not mention the food...in the morning the menu will never change ie cheese slices, sliced meat, bread and cereal, the juices taste awful. However the evening meal was always excellent served by friendly staff. I always found the staff to be friendly.

We have just come home from an 8 day stay at the Sliema Chalet hotel. Expecting a 3 stars hotel it was kind of a desillusion. The room was OK with a beautiful view over the sea but the hotel was very, very basic. After a first day poor breakfast we decided to go out for breakfast the other days. Day one there was only cold water. Towels with holes were only changed every 2 days. The toilet we had to repair. Everything in the room was old and consumed. We had to pay extra for the televison (a daily rent of 1 pound) which had a very bad quality. Only one of the italian channels could be received with reasonable quality. Most of the personnel (not all) were very unfriendly. The Sliema Chalet hotel is probably a good alternative for those who search for a youth hotel and don't expect any luxe. The 3 stars must definitively be changed to one.
