You will be highly disapointed if you stay in this hotel

This hotel gives its guests a very bad impression of Malta and is bad enough to put guests off from ever going to Malta again. A high number of staff are very rude to guests. The food on most evenings was unpalatable, that was if there was anything left to eat especially at breakfast time an hour before they were meant to stop serving. The bed linen was not changed in the whole two weeks myself and my husband were there. There was hardly any entertainment on for guests and nothing at all for children and the bar shut at 11pm so you could not even buy a drink after that time unless you went outside of the hotel. My husband and I have stayed in many 4 star hotels over the years and this hotel is by far the worst. You could see the disapointment on peoples faces as new guests were arriving. If this hotel does not get its act together soon I can see it being closed down due to the large number of guests that will not be returning.

Do Not Stay At This 'Hotel'!

I have been to Malta every year of my 33 years. Obviously I love the island which is why I go back. I introduced my husband to Malta about 15 years ago and he is hooked. We don't tend to stay in the same hotel every year. The previous year we managed to get an apartment at the Club Salina Wharf which I have no complaints about. My husband decided to give the Soreda a try as we had never stayed there before. On arrival as soon as I looked at the outside of the hotel I thought'what have we done?'. When we got to our one-bedroomed apartment it was dark and dingy and has a funny smell that I can't quite describe. We had our 1½ year old daughter with us and they had provided her with the most uncomfortable camp bed I have ever seen. As it was the early hours of the morning we decided to get some shut eye and see what we thought with fresh eyes. In the morning it looked even worse. I looked out off the balcony to look down at a filthy half empty swimming pool that left a really bad odour. We were out of there within and hour and booked into the Santana. The staff didn't seem to care that we were so unhappy especially when we explained that the web pages looked completely different to the reality. We wouldn't have complained as much if we had paid a cheap rate but this wasn't the case. I would never even consider staying at this hotel and would advise anyone reading this to do the same.

Hight discrimination.

This was supposed to be four star but was actually more of a two star. We picked itbecause the brochure made it sound good. It had a flash lobby but everything else was run down. The food was mediocre. The staff were OK. The worst thing was the 'dress code'. It amounted to random discrimination. I was told that I couldn't use the restaurant because I was wearing shorts. Lots of other people were wearing shorts but this rule only seemed to apply to me as I'm over six feet tall. The Mercury Direct reps were useless and when I complained on my return to the UK I was told there was"nothing they could do" which is exactly what they've done as each year they continue to send me their brochure which I ceremonially use as toilet paper. There was also a cock-up over the room alocation which took all day to sort out.

Not as bad as some reviews suggest

We did not read the reviews until after we had booked and were very apprehensive about our 2 week stay. In the event we were pleasantly surprised. The room was clean with tea and coffee making facilities. It also had a fridge, cooker, & toaster. We booked half board and were not disappointed with the food, some days were better than others but when put in the context of the price that we paid it would rate as excellent.The view was poor but unless you have a sea view there are very few rooms with a view anywhere in Malta.The entertainment was good and the staff (with the odd exception), were very helpful. There were a few small things one could find fault with, but not serious enough to spoil the holiday. I am afraid that many Brits nowadays go on holiday armed with notebook and pen determined to find fault and waste so much valuable time getting stressed over silly little things instead of setting out to enjoy themselves which is what they need to help cope with life in todays Britain. Thanks to Mercury Direct and the Soreda Hotel for an excellent holiday.

A dreadful place- more like 2*

We have just arrived back in England and sadly it is the first time I have looked forward to getting home. We were very disappointed in the hotel, it should not be graded a 4*. It was dirty, the food was disgusting- tripe anyone? There was building work being done so the pools were closed, of which we were not told of, the location had views of derelict buildings and wasteland and the service and people were plain rude. Do not waste a holiday here; very, very disappointing.

A really enjoyable stay

We enjoyed our stay at the Soreda Hotel in Qawra, Malta, in December. This was our first time and we will come again. The rooms are nice, clean and comfortable. The food is excellent. The furniture has a lot of space too. The waitresses and waiters and receptionist are very nice with guests. We really appreciated this. We will do a great advert of Soreda Hotel to others after we got to know it was under new management. Thank you for everything!

This is not really a review of the hotel as it was so bad we decided not to stay and forced Mercury Direct to move us elsewhere, albeit at a surcharge.

The hotel in general was grubby and seedy in a back street but noisy location. The staff were surly, the rooms decrepit and dirty. We paid to move to Marfa and stayed in a clean and pleasant hotel with excellent food, none of which were to be expected at the Soreda if conversations with other guests during our brief sojourn were to be believed.

Avoid at all costs, you will be wasting your money.

Disappointment

Was looking forward to a 4* hotel experience but found it to be more worth of two stars. The general appearance was shabby, with many lights out of order and half finished work around the rooftop pool left in a dangerous condition. Food was poor, the lounge bar was dirty and smelly and I found three large dead cockroaches in the lobby. I won't be going back!

Top Local Tips for Qawra

The bus routes make sure you get a map and understand the fares and routes, also the leaflet giving you times and location spots - its your best friend in malta. You could either get a weekly travelcard but we tend to pay the single fare as it worked out to be best rmost of the time.

Fire Safety Make sure you can exit your room fast and know where the emergency stairs are. Make sure the Hotel has a panic handle on the inside of the room door for a quick exit.

Booking trips through the hotel reps dont book trough yor reps - go to Freestar travel - ask for Mary. Its in the centre of Bugibba, we got three trips for the price of one from the rep. You must see the Blue Grotto tour and Mdina. Mount Etna is excelelnt but only 41/2 hours are sight seeing the other 12 is travelling to and from sciliy and the volcano.
