Great Holiday

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed at The Waterfront for the 1st time this year and my husband spent 2 weeks trying to find a fault with the hotel and couldn't find anything at all (which is unusual). Only tiny complaint pool slopes very quickly to deep water and can catch people unaware but apart from that we had a super time the staff are excellent and even coffee and toast on a very early departure. We will definately stay here again in a sea view which was worth every lira extra.

Loved this hotel

We have just returned from a wonderful holiday to Malta, stayed half board at the Waterfront Hotel in Sliema, Malta, the food was excellent, the room very spacious and very clean, the service was good, all the staff there were very helpful, especially the Bar staff. The hotel is only a very short walk away from all the boat trips you need. It is also a very short boat or bus trip away from the city Valetta, we shall return.

Excellent hotel and location

from melody56
Stayed at this hotel for 1 week this year and I have to say that it is one of the best so far. We had a room on the fourth floor with a sea view with breathtaking views of Valetta. Staff very friendly and helpful. Food was excellent and plentiful. The rooms were spotless. The hotel is in walking distance of many shops, bars, restaurants, ferry to valetta, cruises round the island and even a bus stop across the road. Only one small downfall and that was the size of the swimming pool which was on the roof and a bit on the small side, but certainly did not spoil our holiday. Will definately stay here again.

Waterfront - great hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed in the Waterfront hotel from the 16th May 2005 for a week. When we arrived in the transport, the porter was outside picking up our bags before the bus had driven off. When I tried to pick up one of the bags myself, the porters words to me were " Leave that to me - you're on holiday" In all we found the staff very friendly and helpful and only saw one example of grumpiness from one of the bar staff. He was definitely the exception though. Our room was spotlessly clean and we couldn't fault it or the service. Halfway through the week our shower developed a problem which we mentioned to the reception on the way out in the evening. They had fixed it by the time we returned! I noticed that someone said that the fruit juice was watery. One day it was but all it needed was a stir ! It isn't watered down and it's not flavoured water. The breakfasts were not outstanding but we couldn't fault them for quality and availability. The dining room was clean and adequately provided with friendly and helpful staff. Outside the pavements are dusty and uneven - partly because there is building work going on down the road and partly because that seems to be how they are in Malta! As said previously, the hotel is on the Strand which can be noisy, particularly on a Saturday night. We had a seventh floor room so weren't too bothered by it. I have no hesitation in recommending this professionally run hotel and would stay there again.

Good hotel

from Boeleke
The Waterfront Hotel is a good hotel if you are not looking for a place where you can stay put for your whole holiday. You need to get out and visit the island. It is not a place where you can park yourself by the pool and be animated. The pool is very small and is located on the roof of the hotel.
The rooms are clean and wel equipped. Best ask for a room as high up as you can, because the hotel is situated at the Strand, which is a busy road. There is a lot of noise of cars with tires screeching and loud radios.
The food (breakfast and dinner) is English-orientated (English breakfast, pork scratchings, roast, Yorhshire pudding, ...). I would have liked some more Maltese influences. The food itself was good, but it didn't feel like holiday food.
The staff is very helpfull.
The hotel is well located. The busstops to Valetta are close and you are a 5 minute walk away from the Sliema marina where there is a ferry to Valetta (5 minutes) and boats to take you round Malta and round the harbour. There are direct buses to Mdina and to the place where you can take a boat to Gozo. If there is not a direct bus, you can go to Valetta terminus, which is only a 15 minutes busride away.
I would recommend this hotel to independent travellers.

Fruit Juice

from Thisisanuisance
We enjoyed our stay at the Waterfront, it is well located. The staff were very helpful and polite, room excellent and spotless, food generally good, the only gripe we had was that the fruit juice was coloured water.

Home away from home.

3rd time around. We went down to Malta for the 3rd time and we still haven't seen all the sites. Every time we stay in the Waterfront hotel. We like the way the employees handle things and they make us feel very comfortable. Indeed a home away from home. We'll be back in 2006.

from cardiff010
Probably the most unwelcoming hotel I have ever stayed at, reception staff rude and ignorant. Location is too far from the main tourist/attraction areas to walk - we felt it was in a 'dodgy' area. Reception areas and rooms are well furnished, but stay somewhere else if you want good service. Restaurant leaves alot to be desired.

A Happy Christmas

from Scenic06
My wife and I spent a happy week over Christmas 2004 at the Waterfront. Rooms nice and better than most Maltese four star hotels. Staff excellent. Breakfast buffet has great choice and quality (though they have difficulty in cooking fried eggs properly!) Lower floors at the front can be troubled by traffic noise. The introduction of Maltese no smoking laws in 2004 means no smoking in the public areas, including the bar, foyer and restaurant - great! This was our second visit to the Waterfront and we would certainly recommend it as good value.

Had a great Time

We stayed over Christmas and New Year. This is a superb Hotel in an excellent location, we had a great room. Well cooked food with a good choice and quantity. All the staff were very helpful and friendly. Would recommend to anyone.

Top Local Tips for Gzira

Cafe / wine bar If you walk out of the hotel and to your left, follow the road for about a quarter of a mile and you'll come to a line of street cafes. Keep going past them all until you come to a cafe/wine bar on your left. It's modern with a minimalist feel and a couple of plasma screens on the wall. It's not loud in terms of music - more stylish with an excellent menu and drinks with reasonable prices. Compared to the plastic chairs and tables you've walked by to find it, it's sheer quality

Very good situated very easy to go around the island with the public transportation especially with the 7 day ticket

Careful with the taxis We found out that the public taxis were very reluctant to use the official meter and that you really had to agrre the price before the journey. We avoided that hassale by getting the hotel to book with a company they trusted which while probably more expensive made for comfotable and safe journeys.the old fashioned buses are very cheap but crowded.
