Give this one a miss!from mdemo
On each occasion we seem to be allocated the worst room in the house. Each time we re-booked we emailed our request and booked and paid for a suite, what do you know, we get the worst room again. There are a group of rooms that overlook a rubbish tip and are far inferior to all the others. Our air conditioning in the suite did not work and the room smelled of damp and the furniture was something out of a seventies horror. We were moved the next day to a family room which had no view as the hotel was full even though we had booked a suite. This hotel is 5 star in location but definitely not 5 star in appearance and service (it would struggel to get a 3 star rating) The only plus was that the owner has renovated the spa, but my advice would be that he should have done the rooms first (but of course the spa brings him extra revenue). Food was ok, but service inconsistent and the lovely private beach club was filthy, cigarette buts everywhere (what a waste) this hotel would be great if a major hotel group could invest some capital into it. and run it properly the straw that broke the camels back was when we checked out we had been charged for half board for our whole stay, where we had only booked for 3 days, not a problem of course and we pointed it out to the receptionist who rolled his eyes and 'agreed to change it'. he did us a great favour it appears. better to spend your money in a hotel where the staff want to please you. I ll be back if it gets new management and ownership only.

What a disappointmentfrom GrumpyDad63
Good but...from bodomouse
We liked the tranquil surroundings, the spa, the staff were friendly and the hotel well furnished etc. We found the food disappointing for a 'top' hotel and ate out at much better places (our favourate being Il Kartel).
So, yes - not at all bad but I would not book full board until you have sampled the food.
Ta Cenc exceeded our expectationsfrom A TripAdvisor Member
We did sample some of the other restaurants on the island and would particularly recommend the It-Tmun, Mt. Carmel St. in Xlendi. The food was excellent and the owners were very hospitable and friendly (Leli and Jane Buttigieg). Their son, Patrick, also runs a restaurant in Europe St., Victoria, by the same name. This was beautifully decorated and again the food was excellent.
We would definitely return, particularly if the owners of the Ta Cenc decide to refurbish.

Relaxing retreatfrom grandmaTJO
We had Room 47 and the only means of access was across 20 yards of uneven rocks - called a courtyard! Fortunately, although in our early 60s, we are reasonably mobile and even after drinks with dinner we negotiated access successfully - aided by a torch! It could be a real problem for the less mobile. We asked for a move within an hour of arriving, were told that the hotel was full and nothing could be done for the first four days but were promised a move. We heard no more from the hotel and did not pursue the matter because the accommodation, despite its location, grew on us. It appeared to be a family unit and was quite spacious but with the only access door to the unit closed, had no natural light whatsoever. We found the bed very comfortable but the fittings in the room were tired and more well-used-MFI than Marks and Spencer!!
The dinner menu was varied and interesting and the food was good - it would have been improved if the white wine had been chilled more and had chef invariably not left the crepes under the grill or in the oven too long! This is nit-picking, however. The dinners were very enjoyable and the waiting staff were very helpful and friendly.
Both outdoor swimming pools were excellent, but cold(!) - persevere for the first 3 minutes and they're fine!!
Ta Cenc Gozofrom traveltheworld45
The hotel now seems tired and is not 5 star by european or american standards. A car is essential and there is much to see and TaCenc is a useful base. We are both retired and well travelled so I hope this is a well balanced opinion and if we go back to Gozo we would stay elsewhere.
Desolate Paradisefrom granddamme
Having never been to Malta we were stunned at the location and uniqueness of the property. Steps away from the most amazing sheer cliffs and a natural fjord beach for swimming. The hotel offered a lovely full service restaurant right on the rock beach with a view that is like none other.
The family suite room which we had was spectacular - especially for two people and had everything a five star resort could ask for.
Room service which we did often due to our sheer tiredness from travelling was excellent and faster than most North American Hotels.
Disappointingly the food at the restaurant was very bland and obviously catered to a very neutral group with unexciting palates. We were hard pressed to find anything on the menu that was truly Maltese or with European bursting flavours.Really need to spike up the spices etc. (We did a side trip to Sicily and there was no comparison to the food.)
Pool is absolutley beautiful and extremely quiet - too quiet for my liking. Lots of UK tourists who whisper and hence not much laughter or sounds of enjoyment around the pool - most unusual but very nice none the less.
Overall service was generally very good.
Areas of improvement in my mind would be - more information on the general area for tourists, better shuttle service to the beach and main areas of town, have snorkelling equipment available at the beach (a must) and more attentive bar service in the bar and at pool side. Bar service was generally very slow and seemingly disinterested in whether you required a drink. (Also they need to find out how to make a proper Martini - the James Bond version.)
Overall would highly recommend the hotel for those that are able to handle the surrounding arid, rock terrain of Gozo.
Top Local Tips for Gozo
Little extras There's little laid on in the hotel in the evening - just a great meal in an enchanting setting, with twinkling lights under a giant carob tree. We take a small portable DVD player with us for when we feel like watching a movie. (DVDs can be hired in nearby Victoria).
Don't eat here Lot's of nice places to eat outside of the hotel
See the islands There's so much to see, just on Gozo never mind Malta. Get a hire car and make sure it's got aircon. It's blistering in the afternoon. Or go in Spring or Autumn.
