All round a great hotel for the cost to stay there

We arrived at the Topaz Hotel and were inpressed with the foyer nicely presented and the staff helpful. The rooms are immaculate and cleaned daily once you leave them at whatever time. Cooking facilities in the apartments are limited, but sufficient for basic snacks between trips to Bugibba's array of good restaurants. The pool area is clean and pleasant. The bar staff happily serve cold drinks to refresh you from the scorching sun. The hotel is a 5 minute walk to the square, close enough for all the action and far away enough for the peace and quiet. Perfect combination! All round a great hotel for the cost to stay there, nice rooms and the staff were really nice and helpful which made our stay there very pleasant.

Worst hotel I ever stayed in

Having been recommended to this hotel, we decided to combine a business/pleasure break and booked for a week. Our room was inadequate, toilet seat broken. We were told we could smoke in the bedroom and we eventually received an ash tray on the day before our departure. Despite asking for 1 on a daily basis, but constantly being told that one would be placed in our room. The bedding we found too small and did not fit the bed properly. The level of information given to guests were non existant the staff we felt were un helpfulwe recieved a credit note because we were bed/breakfast for the hotel resturant for our evening meal but they failed to tell us that they had set the credit limit to 58 Euro's and we were reminded to pay our balance immediately at reception our balance was at that time 88 Euro's we obviously did not use the hotel resturant again during our stay. The chaos in the resturant during mealtimes was horrendous and waiting for either food or utensiles to be restocked was on average around 5 to 10 minutes. I had the unfortunate occurrence to have my business mobile phone stolen from our room the only other persons to have a key to our room wasm the hotel, but their lack of concern or interest amazed me and that was after waiting some 15 minutes to speak to the manageress. On our departure I asked for the contact details of the Managing Director as being a Managing Director myself I thought we might be able to resolve some of the problems I was met with, a rude Sorry, we cannot give that information. After staying at many 4 star hotels throughout the world, this one I am afraid would recommend to give a very very wide berth to if this is what Malta can offer, than I feel sorry for them.

I really enjoyed staying at the Topaz. My room was massive. The balcony was very big, I had a fridge in my room, tv, I packed my own kettle and hired a car. The hotel was in a perfect location for driving. close to an intersection, but not to close to hear traffic, the only thing keeping me awake at night was the often noisy people walking down the corridors at midnight....the breakfast was buffet, so I could eat plenty for the day. the packed lunch consisted of 2 smoked ham and cheese sandwiches (my fave) a piece of mango, a piece of watermelon, a packet of crisps, a carton of oj, aa cake, and a bottle of water all for a bargain price. The hotel staff always answered my questions and the housekeeping staff were friendly. If I visit Malta again, I definitely want to stay here again, it was very affordable and close to everything. The bed was not MY bed, but fine for holiday. The shower was always piping hot. The hotel offered a postal service and sold stamps. there were activities, games room aandd a gift shop. All in all a good service.

The best family hotel ever!

I first stayed at the Topaz Hotel when I was two years old. My parents had a timeshare and went every year. Some years, they went on their own to get away but other years they took up to 6 children with them. The staff at the hotel were extremely kind, courteous and accomadating. On my parents 25th wedding anniversary, they even surprised them with a cake! My only criticism was the lack of night time entertainment.

Agreeing with the majority of reviews on this Hotel, the 4 Star rating is a joke. More like 2 Star. Although the foyer is smart enough, the rest of the building leaves a lot to be desired. Firstly the room, and more importantly the bed. Although we booked a double room we were presented with twin beds. Although we told reception they said there's nothing they can do until the following morning. Apparently the beds in every room are singles. The next day when we came back later on the two singles were pushed together with a sheet that didn't even cover the two mattresses. The mattresses were poor quality anyway. We ended up complaining every day to the chambermaids and reception and were reassured they would change the sheets but we had the same sheets for the entire week! The bathroom was poor quality, the toilet seat was broken, toilet didn't flush properly and shower was poor. The view from the balcony was of some back street and there was barely room to sit on it. The corridoors were very shabby, narrow, dark (the light was broken outside our room) and gave the hotel a feeling of a labyrinth. Although they advertised as several restaurants there was only really one for the half board, a buffet style. The food was horrendous, breakfast and dinner. All the meats were fatty and had bones in. Ended up eating boiled eggs and toast every breakfast. Staff were unhelpful but the chambermaids took the biscuit. They would come in the room at 8.45am without knocking expecting the room to be empty. If we were still in the room they would walk in (before giving us chance to dress) and ask us to sign a bit of paper giving them permission to come back tomorrow instead to clean the room. Several other guests complained about the same thing. I can go on, such as the computers in the foyer were all out of order but I’m sure you get the picture. Avoid at all costs!

I've visited Malta twice now, once in 2005 with my parents and best friend and once in 2007 with my boyfriend. The Topaz hotel was amazing. Our room was very spacious and the view from the balcony at night was fantastic. Our en suite bathroom was really nice and clean. All the staff were very efficient, the cleaners put us new bed clothes on everyday, the reception staff were helpful and the bar staff were v friendly. The restaurant was always very clean and tidy, although the food didn't seem to be of the same standard in 2007 as it was in 2005. The hotel conveniently has a shop and drinks machines, a hair salon, indoor and outdoor pools and bars. I would say however, that it is more appealing to the older generation. My bf and I were looking for a quiet holiday together but many young couples are looking for something a bit more exciting. My experience there however was absolutely amazing. I encountered no problems and after a late flight I was glad to be able to walk into the hotel and within 5 minutes be in my luxurious room in a 4* hotel!

I have just returned from Topaz hotel and have to say I was very pleasantly surprised. The hotel was excellent in every way, from spacious bedrooms to lovely food and variety of food. The staff were excellent, very friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend it for families and elderly. The only disadvantage is that you have to travel to a sandy beach as seafront near this hotel is very rocky.

We stayed at the Topaz over Christmas and New Year and had a marvellous time. The food was good with plenty of variety - Christmas Day and New Years Eve buffets were excellent. The rooms were clean and sheets and towels changed regularly. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We will definetly be booking for Christmas again this year and stay at the same hotel.

Topaz terrible !

We arrived at about 6.30 am after a very uncomfortable flight. Although it's listed as 4 star, I think it would possibly qualify as a minimum of 2 stars. There was no-one available to help us with our in with our luggage and no drinks, not even water! When we asked for a drink, we were told to go to the pay machine to get one- we had no change, however, so that was no help!We were a group of four, two wrinklies and granddaughter with her mother. We'd booked two rooms and expected them to be close, but we were way down the corridor from each other. The bed linen stank of stale sweat and the pillows smelt musty as though they'd never been washed. The bed frame and base were of poor quality wood and so flimsy that you were afraid to move, in case you broke them.We complained about the smelly bed linen and pillows, but the manager said that all he could smell was the washing powder! The restaurant was a revelation. There were always flies crawling on the cold meats and cheese selections in the cool trays. There were frequently flies crawling over the table cloths. My favourite food is salad, but I always went for cooked food, just to be on the safe side! This was not always a good choice- one of our fellow guests was presented with COCKROACH OMELETTE one day- and she's a vegetarian! The knives and forks were frequently dirty and there were often smears of grease on the so-called clean plates. All the air- conditioner vents were surrounded by black mould and the whole place stank of damp. Packed lunches consisted of two pieces of bread with one half slice of cheese between and an apple, each of which in our case was badly bruised and inedible. We returned them to the chef and were amazed to see them on display the following day in the fruit bowl in the restaurant! This was my first and only visit to Malta and it was such a nasty experience, I'll never go back- BEWARE OF THE TOPAZ HOTEL IN ST PAULS!!!
