Historical Traveller Reviews of Hilton Luxembourg Hotel

Not top quality or 4-5 stars

from BA-traveler
The hotel is situated outside the city center on a hill, it has a modern look and the restaurant is next to the lobby. When we arrived we could smell a kitchen nearby, not very attractive to be that close to the reek of preparing food on your way to the elevators!

Checking in took a long time; the hotel has many rooms and seemed full with guests of tour operators. As we booked in advance on the Hilton website we received an e-mail before arrival “Thank you for choosing Hilton Luxembourg for your upcoming visit to Luxembourg. As a Hilton HHonors® Gold VIP, you are very important to us. We appreciate your business and want to make your upcoming stay as comfortable and rewarding as possible” So it started with a disappointment, we didn’t even get our room preference (booking was made 3 weeks before arrival). Asked for a high floor and were given a room on the 6th of total 19 floors. Our room was dark and the bathroom was in desperate need of renovation. Very old with moldy spots and even spurs of rust in the toilet! As it was very busy, we didn’t demand another room.

Outside there is free parking; we had corresponded with the hotel to have a covered parking spot. There are limited boxes available and we could park our car inside (for 13 euro p.n.). The box is very small and it is hard to park inside and to get in and out of the car.

There is a very convenient bus service to the city center. The concierge sells bus tickets (1,50 euro one way) and gives upon request a list with the bus schedules. The bus stop is close by.

We had dinner at the restaurant, there is a menu, but we choose the buffet, which was very good. You can choose to have the buffet with or without the main course and there is a list with all kinds of wine by the glass. The breakfast was also excellent.

Although we had a reservation for two nights we checked out after the first night. Not only was our stay not as comfortable as thought before, fur us one day to visit the city was enough.

Disappointing hotel

from big_punter
I stayed for one night here, and I was disappointed by the room quality. Room was large, but tatty and sparsely furnished to the point of feeling as though I was in an aircraft hangar. Very uninspiring. Caters almost exclusively for business people - I wouldn't recommend this for tourists.

Staff were fine, not brilliant and the location is very remote - Difficult to find when driving, and miles out of Luxembourg City. 3-Star tops - don't pay 4-star prices.

s better

At short notice got told I had to go to Luxembourg on business - there was zero availibilty anywhere, so called in the 48hr guaranteed availabilty HHonors card. It worked - was given a confirmed room, check in was A1, bell hop was good, welcome letter all the standard service was tip top - was even given a complimentary upgrade to a suite - whilst a tad tired a nice touch. This is not a flagship Hilton and it is a cab ride out of town, (20 euros+), but there are not a queue of better hotels in Luxembourg, all the staff I dealt with - bar, room service etc were excellent - and bear in mind I did not want to be there!!! I would definately stay here again out of choice - and I travel a lot!

Lovely weekend, good hotel

from snoeike
In the second weekend of september 2006 me,my girlfriend, my buddy and his girlfriend stayed in the Hilton Luxembourg for a weekend break.
It his a good hotel with al lot enough aminities for the bussiness traveler, and for the tourist witha weekend break.

The hotels is outside the city center, very well located and you can reach it very good by car. It doesn't look nice from the outside but the interior is good. The parking lot at the Hilton is for free.
You can go to the city by bus, wath will cost 1,50 euro and it will take 5 to 10 minutes to get there.

The rooms are good, we had a bath, bed, tv, minibar etc. It wasn't the most modern interior but is was wel maintained and the housekeepers cleaned it every day very good.

At the restaurant we ate several times, one time we had a dinner and we had 2 breakfasts. The dinner was a good buffet with a fantastic dessert buffet. The breakfast was very good, with a lot of varity.

In the hotel their is al small swimming pool and a separated sauna. We want swimming and we also went into the sauna. This was al very good. You can also get massages but we didn't do that.

The staff is very friendly and the concierge told us everything we wanted to now and he was very helpfull. We went to Metz (la douce France) and to Beaufort and Vianden. This is not so far for Luxembourg city.

So it is a very good and well maintained hotel for and a nice base for a weekend break.

Great choice, excellent food

I stayed at the Hilton Luxembourg for a couple of days (over a weekend) and really enjoyed it.

The staff was very welcoming and helped us to find our way around Luxembourg.

The restaurant is excellent, the breakfast buffet offers a great variety of fresh things to start the day and we had a very good dinner the second night.

does what is says on the packet

Very comfortable and relaxing stay. I was there for 5 nights on my own while my daughter played basketball in Luxembourg.

The weather was great so spent time relaxing on the sun terrace and near the pool.

Breakfast was good. lunch & Dinner pricey but there is plenty of palces to eat in the city. 1.50 euros on the bus into town was a bargain and it only takes 15 minutes.

Great wee bar 100 yards froom hotel where the food and drink is more reasonable.

Would certainly stay there again. Rooms good - service good.

Business hotel

from simonsmidt
I stayed here because of work several weeks during the year 2006.
It is not a "charming" hotel, but a pure business one. It is large and therefore not very personal.
The rooms are what you can expect in a Hilton: luxurious and spacious.
Some have a safe, others don't.
Big plus is the buffet-breakfast. Lot of choice and also healthy.
Downside is that it is 6 km from the European institutions district and even further from the city center.
A minibus can bring you for free to those locations but only runs twice in the morning. So, make sure to book it early.
It is rather expensive as well: €3,20 for a coffee, €3,90 for a beer. But hey, what do you expect in a Hilton....?

A good option for a city break

from vermeer
This is a good hotel you can book at a bargain price. Our room was large and well equipped - a typical Hilton. Not the newest property but perfectly acceptable. The property is quite a way out of the city centre. It costs 12 euros in a taxi but there is a municipal bus which goes from very near the hotel. We drove and it was very difficult to find - it's on a minor route into or out of town.

A Good Hilton.......

from LizWadd
After reading some of the reviews posted about this hotel I was somewhat nervous however was plesantly surprised. It is away from the hub of the city but we walked there and back and it's not too far. Having stayed in a number of Hiltons worldwide for both business & pleasure I would say that this hotel is predominantly a business hotel but suited our needs perfectly for spending 5 days in Luxembourg. Breakfast was in typical Hilton style and was super for filling up for a busy day ahead. Lunch is expensive and so is dinner so we chose to eat elsewhere. The city is also very touristy & pricey for food so venture off the track. There is a cluster of superb restaurants not far from the hotel and if you want recommendations the concierge are only too happy to help and will phone in advance and make recommendations.

My only downside is that if you want to know something you have to ask specific questions. The staff only seem to answer direct questions rather than offer general advice or volunteer information.

Not too bad at all!

Just come back from a trip to Stuttgart to pick up a car, we were the only people in Suttgart that didn't go for the footie :-) Decided to travel through Luxembourg and Bruges on the way home. We're Hilton Honour members and were upgraded to a suite on the 16th floor and for the euros we paid which included a very good breakfast we had a fantastic deal. By the way, book direct with the hotel, it's often much cheaper than the agents. The hotel is not a particularly attractive building, but when you're inside it doesn't matter. It's high up on a hill outside the city, about a 15 euros trip each way. Unbeknown to us there was a festival on the night we stayed so Luxembourg was extremely busy and we were advised to use the taxi. Otherwise you can get a bus or take your own car down. All in all a good stop-over hotel. If you want to stay in the city however, you would have to pay three times the amount especially for the sort of room we had. All the staff were lovely and spoke a million different languages!

Top Local Tips for Luxembourg

Taxi's are expensive! Ask the Hotel to pick you up from the airport and return you there when you depart, this could save you 70 euros.

L'entracte Very nice restaurant downtown Lux. Variety in menu (also cheese fondue) 7 Avenue Montery, Luxemburg tel. 22 81 32

Airport When you arrive at the airport, go to the information desk and ask them to phone the Hilton for the courtesy bus. Takes about 10 minutes if the bus is available
