Bars Choose carefully what bars you got to (Sinner Street not great) alot of them seem to charge double as soon as they realise that your english - we got charged 9 lats (over £10) for 2 vodkas and lemonade in the Jack Daniels Bar
Domini Canes - a great restaurant in Riga Domini Canes www.dominicanes.lv Skarnu street 18/20 Riga Old Town What a very pleasant surprise to find this little gem in Old Town Riga. We had planned to visit the recommended 1739 restaurant further down the same street. But the dowdy smelly ground floor interior just didn’t feel right, so we went to look for another restaurant – and happily found Domini Canes. New, eye catchingly decorated in a chic brown and beige minimalist style. There was lots of space between the tables and an atmosphere that was both intimate and welcoming. We started with a couple of well made cocktails – nicely alcoholic. The menu was short but varied and enough to tempt most palettes. We each started with soup – one goulash, one wild mushroom. Both were homemade, very tasty and accompanied by fresh bread and herb butter. For main course one of us had the spaghetti carbonara and the other the crusted chicken breast on bacon wrapped vegetables – this was very special and amazingly tasty. For deserts we dabbled in cheesecake and a berry soup with ice cream. Everything was washed down with a very good New Zealand sauvignon blank. Quality and presentation of the food was very good. Desserts do need some more imagination to match those of the appetisers and main courses. A few more smiles from the staff would have helped, but they were friendly and welcoming. Overall a very pleasant dining experience – and just 50LV all in. Worth a try, doubt you’ll be disappointed.
