Great Hotel

My girlfriend and I stayed at this hotel for 3 nights from 13th February, and overall were very impressed with our stay.

We booked a Junior Suite which was on the first floor just above reception. The first night we encountered noise both from the street and the room above.

The noise from above was enough to keep us awake for a time. You could clearly hear the occupants walking around the room. However it is unclear wether this was down to lack of sound insulation or inconsiderate occupants.

We asked to move room the following morning and upgraded to a full suite on the topfloor. The remainder of our stay was enjoyable.

ROOMS

Both the Junior Suite and Full Suite were excellent rooms. They are clean, well equipped and furnished to a high standard. The Full Suite in particular offered a separate lounge with huge leather sofas, separate bedroom and bathroom. It also afforded great views of the old town.

LOCATION

Located in the Old Town this is a great base to explore surrounding area, whilst also being just a stone's throw from the City centre too. Bus and Train stations are a 5 minute walk for any onward journey.

FOOD

Breakfast was what you come to expect travelling around Europe, continental style. Eggs and sausages were also available. Very good.

RECOMMENDATION

I would definately recommend a stay in this hotel but request a room on the upper floors to avoid noise pollution from the street. If your thinking of booking a suite pay the extra and go for a full suite. You won't be disappointed!!

A GOOD HOTEL IN A GREAT CITY!!!!!!!!

The hotel is awesome, it verges on perfect in fact, the heat situation, i think they must have checked these reviews because i had to open the windows every night!!!!! we had a junior suite, our friends had the full suite, both rooms were excellent, but the full suite is def worth the extra, seperate bedroom, on the verytop floor, so no street noise!!!! My major criticisms are these, no tea/coffee making facilities in the rooms, which surprised me because they really do try hard to please, and second, the local erm... massage parlour..... openly flowts its wears outside the hotel doors nightly, and we were constantly approached despite forcefully saying no EVERY night. That said the hotel is very very nice, re prices, the LIDO is great for very nice surroundings, cheap cheap cheap but tasty food. There is a restaurant in the main square located next door to the fancy steak house, named 4 something or other, awesome restaurant if you love garlic like we do, cigarettes are unbelievable, 30 - 70 pence per packet!!!! the irish bar just to the left of the hotel door serves latvian beer at 90 odd pence per pint, but on the whole, beer and drinks are artificially expensive, mc donalds blew me away, 18 pence for 6 chic nuggs!!!!! under 4 quid for 2 large meals with latte's and apple pies, imnot really a macs fan, but at that price was worth a treat!!!! oh, and do yourself a favour, forget taking photos inside any buildings, old habits die hard, i tried to take a pic in the lido, and a group of C.I.A. looking types blasted me in latvian, and finally said NO PHOTOS!!!!!, everywhere, even the market, says no photos!!! very odd....

I emailed the hotel with my concerns, so u never know, things could change!!!!!

Modern Chic, Very spacious, fantastic service

My parents were visiting my sister and I from Australia for several weeks, and I really wanted us all to experience a traditional white christmas. We booked 2 rooms in the Centra (a double and a twin with an extra bed).

The hotel's rooms are a very generous size. We had a twin with an extra bed and it was like a size of a suite (although was not one). Had 2 sofas, TV, large window, a hallway even! Had beautiful simplistic 'white' decor - a little on the cold side I suppose but looked fresh and modern. The bathroom in the twin room had heated floor and was quite large. My parents double room was still large, but their bathroom was a bit pokey. Shower pressure great.

The staff were very helpful in all respects.

The rooms look out over the old town which was gorgeous at that time of year - lots of snow around.

The hotel has many great restaurants around and is on the same street as the Christmas markets which were suberb. We spent 3 nights and was not disspointed. I would definitely go back. The breakfasts are lovely and fresh.

If Centra is busy, staying elsewhere in the old town is the way to go. You can still venture across the river to the other parts of town, but the cobbled pedestrian only streets are far more pituresque.

Stayed at the Hotel Centra in Riga over New Years Eve. The hotel is ideal for a short stay in Riga. Took advantage of staying in a junior suit rather than double which was worth the small charge. Lovely large, clean contemporary rooms not cold at all- loved the heated bathroom floor! Staff efficent and friendly not great with recommendations. Breakfast sufficent and serviced at good times. Excellent location for day and night entertainment. Took advantage of the stretch limo pick up at the airport (same price as a taxi) great way to start the trip. Only issue was street noise. It was NYE weekend and room was just above street level but noise could be heard at all hours through night. Would recommend and would stay there again but would get a room on a higher floor next time.

Central, stylish but a little too cool!

Stayed in this hotel for 2 nights. Took advantage of the airport transport - very good - nice Mercedes S Class and the driver was waiting for us in the arrivals hall. Hotel is very well located inside the old city with lovely views of both St Peters and St John's churches. Our suite was huge (bigger than my first apartment) with great comfortable furniture. 2 problems however, the rooms never got very warm despite having the thermostat up to max and it was quite chilly in bed as a result (with the sub zero temperatures outside impacting). First night's sleep was awful also as a result of a problem with the bed which meant that with every turn it creaked horribly. The following morning though when I mentioned this to reception they immediately suggested a change to an identical room one floor below. I was very pleased that they dealt with the problem so quickly.

Other issues include the fact that breakfast was a bit bland and the male receptionists could be a bit friendlier - they really were very cold. The one female receptionist I dealt with (the one who changed our room) was very nice.

Overall a very positive experience with the Centra and I would recommend.

Perfect in every way!!

I just got back from Riga..and the city was way more than I expected it to be. Everyone was really friendly, and I couldn't believe how many languages everyone spoke. The food, music, people were all great. The hotel was in a prime location, I had a single room, that provided more than enough room, I was on the 6th floor, with a really nice view in 3 directions, I never heard any outside noise, but then again, I wasn't on the street side. I loved the fact that the hotel provided free Broadband connection. This is a must stay for anyone visiting Riga. I loved everything about this place.

We have just returned from a weekend in Riga. Great city for a weekend visit. The Centra Hotel is very good. Clean, great location in the old town and excellent staff. Although this trip was a vacation, I travel a lot on business - I struggle to remember a better hotel I have stopped at.

Just a couple of tips. The bus to the centre from the airport runs regular and is only 20p. It drops you very close to the old town. If you need to take a taxi to or from the old town, get it just outside the barriers - if not they charge you an additional £5 on top of the fare.

We stayed at the centra last weekend for 3 nights in a 6th floor suite -spacious and clean with modern furnishing s and views to the city in 3 directions although occasional noise from building work[just look at the number of cranes on the skyline]this didnt spoil any enjoyment of our stay.We didnt notice any street noise from nightclubs as previously reported.
The hotel is in excellent location and the transfers from the airport were efficently dealt with ;the stretch limo was a bargain @ 10 lats!!
Staff were also v helpful to assist with all aspects of our stay.
Minor negative points -small bathroom -but not a problem really as lounge and bedroom were a good size.
Breakfast could have been a bit of a bit more innovative and changed over the 3 days.
Otherwise I recommend the centra and riga for a relaxing weekend

Excellent value for money at the Centra

Stayed at the Centra from 5th October for 6 nights. Airport transfer arranged by the hotel,on time and good value at 9 lats. Hotel very centrally located in the old town. From previous reviews, we were concerned about street noise. We had a junior suite on the 2nd floor overlooking the street and did not encounter any excessive noise. The room was very spacious, comfortable and clean, although the bathroom was a little small. The breakfast was excellent. There was many choices to suit any nationality. What an absolute gem Riga turned out to be. The city was a great mix of old and new with many interesting finds. Visit the museum of pharmacy for only 0.50lats.A really interesting place to spend a few hours. Lots of galleries and beautiful parks to explore.Very reasonable prices at the National Opera. Paid 10Lats for two tickets for Swan Lake, had great seats and it was an excellent performance. Make sure you visit Majori.Worth the short train journey to walk along the beautiful coastline and sample the local food.There was a vast choice of restaraunts and bars all serving top quality food at reasonable prices. Try Vanille, Light, The Alpen Rose and Macaroni to name a few. You will be spoilt for choice.We would definately visit again.

Great hotel.Convenient for airport bus.Had no problem with noise .Closed the window and utilised the temperature control --- once I had worked out to use it.

Good breakfast. Hotel conveniently placed and well priced .

Top Local Tips for Riga

Galleries shopping centre Turn right outside the hotel and about 30 metres down the road you will see a new shopping complex on left hand side. The supermarket (Rimi) has the same type of produce as in UK. We had a picnic (sandwiches, crisps and beer) for lunch one day .. very nice.

Vegetarian Restaurants If you're vegetarian, you may not expect to find too many options in traditional Latvian restaurants. However, we were pleasently surprised by the amount of choice available in Riga. Two of our favourites were Planet Sushi where we sampled some gorgeous veggie options which were really good value. There was also Kamala, an amazing veggie restaurant which was a bit more pricey but definitely worth it. I would recommend booking in advance though, as it was absolutely tiny.

When If you go even at Easter, wrap up warm. And I am from Scotland! Food is excellent value and quality.
