steep uphill climb from Park Hotel Le Fonti but well worth it. Eat at il pozzo degli etruschi and antica taverna

A steep climb or an even steeper taxi charge If you stay at the Park Hotel Le Fonti as we did, it's quite a steep climb up to Volterra which can be done in 20 minutes or so at a very leisurely pace. It had been extremely hot during the day when we did it and that made the ascent sweat inducing. There was a violent thunderstorm one evening so 8 of us got a taxi up to Volterra. The guy charged us 20 euros for a drive that was not even 5 minutes long. He was steeper than the climb itself!!!
