A good find
from Vissa
Location was great for our two days in town - could walk to the shops / harbour and the beach. Lucca was very helpful and spoke good english. Rooms were standard but clean. The breakfast was excellent and when we left early in the morning they made great effort to see that we got our breakfast.

We wanted a few days by the sea whilst touring Italy and having consulted trip advisor booked this hotel.
We were not disappointed and totally agree with the praise heaped upon it.
The owner and his delighful parents must have been shattered at the end of a long summer season but did not show it. The hotel sparkled with cleanliness, breakfast was superb and nothing was too much trouble. The only possible caveat I can think of was the towels which I think have been mentioned by previous reviewers but this is a minor quibble.
We would thoroughly recommend the Hotel Tirrenia annd wish Luca a good holiday he deserves it !!!!

Pleasant Hotel in Convenient Location
from steveyh
A clean and pleasant hotel, recently renovated, and centrally located near the promenade.
Our twin room was small but functional: air-con, en-suite shower room, TV, wardrobe with small safe. Inclusive breakfast is available until 10:30am - buffet style, with coffee, tea or hot chocolate. Unlimited cereal, fresh fruit, juices, natural yogurt, croissants, cake, wafers, bread rolls, toast, cheeses & cold meats - worth at least 10-15 euros per person per day, judging by local cafe standards!
We found that you are expected to leave your key when out for the day/evening - the key area is accessible to anyone who walks in to the hotel. Advisable therefore to keep valuables on you or lock them in the small safe in the room. Also had to leave a passport at reception which was returned on check out. You don't pay the bill until check-out either, so I guess that is the hotel's security policy.
Only complaint was that the room could be noisy at times, if someone upstairs was noisy. The maids like to have a good old chat in the mornings too, so if you like to sleep in later, maybe request a higher floor (we were on the 1st!).
They also do not seem to have a late key, so you have to guiltily wake up the (very pleasant) old guy who lives there by pressing the buzzer if you get back after he's gone to bed, which seemed to be at about 12:30-1:00am.
Free internet access in the lobby area is a definite plus. Check-out time is a very reasonable 11:30am. Staff can speak English pretty well and are more than willing to give local information.
I booked online on the hotel's webiste at ---- for 80 Euros per night (twin room).

What a great little hotel
from Welsh Peter
A lot of my friends in the UK have visited Viareggio recently and were keen to give hotel recommendations. I chose, however, to be guided by Trip Advisors and chose Hotel Tirrenia. I think I made a wise decision. The hotel is one of the best small hotels I have stayed in anywhere in the world - for the price. This may sound gushing but, for once, I cannot find a fault. The hotel is set back about 100m back from the seafront in a quiet side street; it is immaculately clean and everything worked. All the fixtures and fittings were of a very high quality. Best of all was the service provided by the proprietors. Being a family-run hotel, there was always a member of the family on duty who was polite, helpful and friendly without being, as they say these days, 'in your face'. They recommended good restaurants, booked car hire and taxis with good-natured charm. The breakfasts were excellent and speedily served. Perhaps I have found one fault - their brochure could be better so that I could hand them out to my friends and convince them of how great this little hotel gem is.
Great staff
from scottndee
For a touristy area, this was a paradise only a block away. Rooms were spotless. And the staff.....so incredibly nice and helpful. Luca is the best! Breakfast was also grand.

The hotel is a great location just 2 min from the beach front and about 5 min from the harbour.
The whole team in the hotel were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We were able to park our car right outside the front door for the two nights of our stay. The whole hotel was spotless, I think our only criticism would be that the towels have seen better days and were a bit on the rough side!

Thanks for a great week

Just back from a great week in Viareggio. Hotel Tirennia more than lived up to its top billing. For a supposed three star hotel, this was great value, clean and convenient. Thanks to Luca, the manager, for the warm and friendly greeting and the really helpful advice: where to go, how best to get there, which restaraunts etc etc.
Must visit Florence, Lucca, Pisa (do go up the tower) and the cinque terre towns (wear flat shoes!).
Cant wait to go back

Great little hotel

Recently stayed at Hotel Tirrenia for two nights as part of our trip to Italy and we couldn't have asked for a nicer hotel in Viareggio. Luca is a fantastic host, very helpful and knowledgeable about the area. If you want to spend the day on the beach he'll give you a ticket which makes it a little cheaper. He also recommended a lovely seafood restaurant nearby for dinner. The rooms are spacious and very clean. The breakfast is the best I have had in Italy, lots of variety. He also told us about renting bikes in the Pineta which the kids enjoyed immensely. Overall a great hotel, two minutes from the beach and reasonably priced. What more could you ask for?

This is a friendly, extremely clean well run gem of a hotel, close to the beach. What more could you want?
Nothing was too much trouble, the levels of customer care were very high. We had a family room and a normal room booked. These rooms where functional and well decorated. Lucca the hotel manager's advice on transfers from the airport and where to eat was invaluable.
Value for money you will find this hotel hard to beat, we definitely plan to return.

Go to the Tirrenia
from flubadub
We recently stayed at the Tirrenia as part of a longer holiday through Italy and France. The hotel was spotlessly clean, modern and the air conditioning was excellent. Our room had a a lovely balcony looking down the street to the sea front beyond. The owners were unobtrusive and extremely helpful if required. Breakfast was extended continental with lots of fruit in addition to the usual items. The rooms were quite small but everything else was perfect. Our standards are high and we loved the Tirrenia.
Top Local Tips for Viareggio
DO NOT GET A TAXI from/to PISA airport Taxi costs approx 80 Euros one way. There is an excellent coach/bus service costing 2.50 Euros !! per person.
Restaurants Ask Luca for advice and eat away from the promenade - you'll find some wonderful places to eat
No Bars located If you want lively evening entertainment this is not the best place to go.
