Top Local Tips for Venice

Water bus We got a 72 hour pass which we used and got to Burano and the Lido too. But Venice is not that huge and it really does not take long to walk from one area to another. Take the number 1 up the Grand canal for the views but the best tip is to take very comfortable shoes and walk. You see so much and soak up the atmosphere. You never really get lost even if you have no idea where you are!

transport use the water bus for travellling as the water taxis are very expensive

Best way to get to and fro the airport if you have little luggage. I have done my extensive research on this. Upon arrival, turn left to find the Avis car rental booth, on the right, find the booth selling ACTV water bus tickets (6 euros for a single trip). Ask which bus departs the soonest, the ACTV (2 euros) or ATVO (3 euros)? Take the fastest departing bus, and 20 minutes later, you will arrive at the Piazza Roma. Then take the water bus, no. 1 or no. 82 to your ideally located hotel (I had chosed centrally located Hotel Luna Baglioni and Hotel Concordia, no need to cross countless bridges and looking at maps for directions!). The whole process is about 50-55 minutes and costs only 8/9 euros per person - great savings and great view down the Grand Canal! Upon our return, we opted for a different route for a different view, using the Alilguna water bus to the airport, its one hour 20 minutes journey but its sort of a lagoon tour to me, nice way to end the Venetian experience. However, its a 15 minutes walk under sheltered walkway to the airport.
