Top Local Tips for Venice

Early October is heavenly! We went to Venice the first week in October, and we couldn't have asked for better weather. The sun shone every day, and the temperatures were mild enough to wear short sleeves, yet not unbearably hot. You could always find a cool spot between the buildings or in the campos. At night I wore a light cardigan over my dress and was comfortable dining outside.

Rail Travel The Intercity and Eurostar trains may be quicker but the local service fares (to places such as Verona and Padua) iare much cheaper and the extra time (not much) can be spent looking at the countryside

Shopping and dining Venice has the best food in Italy and they're the friendliest people too. Dining is out of this world. When you order a pizza you get the whole pizza but it's so paper thin that you can eat the whole thing and it's the best you've ever tasted in your life. The shops are all along the alleyways. Murano glass is the cheapest here rather than on the island of Murano. You can walk down the alleyways a 2 am and still feel safe.
