We found this near the train station (no reservations) and got a really nice spacious room (walls decorated with fabric and matching drapery). New bathroom in the room, best part was a private patio off the room with table and chairs (great for enjoying wine and snacks at end of the day) overlooking green space. Breakfast also good, coffee, cereal, croissant, juice, yogurt. Price was 80 euro/night. Thought this was a great find considering travel books said expect small, dark, pricey rooms in Venice. This was anything but! Would stay here again (only down side is that it is about a half hour walk from San Marco but the walk is part of the enjoyment of Venice!)

Top Local Tips for Venice

Walk We walked through Venice, and it was so great. The streets were small and confusing, so you will get lost for sure. But people there are so nice they're willing to show u where stuff is. It is also great fun to walk across the markets and see all the cool stuff in the shops.

Gondola Rides Don't get the gondola outside of St Mark's square. Try the small areas to see if the price is lower. We couldn't bargain with them at all by St Mark's and everyone goes from there so it's crowded and not as special.
