We spent 5 nights at Hotel Paris and it was absolutely great. The staff were helpful with info about the area - grocery stores, dinner ideas (La Corta restaurant in downtown Mestre), how to get to Venice etc. Venice is a short train ride and seeing people lugging their luggage in Venice or waiting ages to check their luggage in at the Venice train station made us happy we were in Mestre. We had a lovely breakfast at the hotel. Grabbed our water and camera and headed into Venice. Spent entire days wandering the streets of Venice and returned to the hotel to soak our feet and drink wine. Trains run quite late into the evening so coming back was never a problem. The rooms are very clean with a mini-fridge for chilling the Proseco bought at the Ali supermarket 5 minutes away. The bathrooms are not huge but warm water was plentiful and the water pressure great. The hotel was recently renovated with the design thought out by the owner. We highly recommend this hotel.

Mestre Use Mestre as a base to get in/out of Venice or other European destination via train otherwise not much happening in downtown Mestre.

airport to hotel The bus leaves Marco Polo airport and goes directly to Mestre train station. It takes about 15 minutes and costs 3 euros. You can also get a cheaper local bus but it doesn't have space for luggage. You buy the tickets in the airport. No point in taking a taxi.
