Top Local Tips for Venice

Markets - a must do! I think it's on a Wednesday, the fresh fish market is just amazing. You can also buy fresh cooked fish for lunch, street ahead of Fish & Chips in the UK, just simply cooked fresh fish. The fruit and veg displays are stunning too.

Waterbus tickets Don't pay a separate fare for each journey, buy yourself a daily or 3-day ticket (whichever is appropriate) from one of the information booths, they are really good value. The booth staff are well used to answering queries and all seemed to have good English.

Finding Palazzo Priuli Whether by water taxi or water bus, do get off at Zaccaria stop. Almost any of the small side streets will lead you to S Provolo which will turn into Fondementa de l'Osmarin. We knew what the hotel looked like and so recognized it immediately. We also bought a couple of fairly good maps, my favorite was Borch Map because its print is larger and it is plastic, and familarized ourselves with the hotels location. Actually, a good idea to get a more in depth view of Venice's lay out before going.
