The hotel's perfect location and the admittingly wonderful restaurant might be tempting - but be aware that the staff at the reception is there to join Venetians in daylight-robbery. Examples? Here we go: At numerous occasions I overheard the receptionist suggesting complimentary excursions to Murano island, organised by the City's tourism agency. This "special occasion" is a forced sale of Murano glassware - you don't see anything of the island and the "one-hour-tour" takes you half a day if you don't buy.
If you command a taxiboat to take you to the railway station when leaving the hotel and you insist that the taxi driver puts on the meter (yes they have meters and official price regulations) you will find you credit card debited with more than twice the difference when you are back at home.
So, if you work hard for your money and Venice is ment to be a once in your life experience, don't let corrupted hotel staff spoil your trip. I......
