Top Local Tips for Venice

Walk! Venice is beautiful so walk it - it's easy enough with a decent map but all the major sites are signposted around the city so it's hard to get lost anyway even though you feel like you're in a maze. The vaporetto is great if you want to get between places quickly and really easy to use but I reckon you see the real Venice if you walk.

Travelling from the airport and daily use of water transport Take time to study and understand in advance how the various forms of water transport work in Venice for everyday use during your visit as well as getting to and from the airport. Learn the differences between the Vaporetto routes, water taxis, gondolas and traghetto and the prices of each. This will make your stay less confusing and more enjoyable.We caught a taxi from the Airport to Piazzale Roma and then the Vaporetto to our hotel. Take luggage with wheels as you may end up walking quite a long way across uneven ground.

Get the AcTv pass, great value for money Get the pass at the airport, use the No. 5 bus service to venice (P. Roma) and then take the vaporetto to S. Marco. Get a nice map and WALK!!!!! If you are tired of walking, nothing like trying the different vaporetto lines around Venice. I recommend the Long way from P. Roma to S. Marco.
