Top Local Tips for Venice

Use your feet Explore it on foot as well as by vaporetto. Just walk (you can't really get lost), sit and drink coffee, watch people, dip into churches that you pass, and get a feel for Venice away from San Marco and the Rialto

Moving luggage can be hard Since there are few vehicle roads/taxis in Venice, getting your luggage to place to place can be difficult if you have several and/or large pieces. Vaporettos are cheap enough, but required getting luggage on and off an often crowded boat. Water taxis are convenient and the "driver" will help with luggage and take you right to most locations, but they are very expensive. To get from the train station to the nearby cruise ship pier (a 10 minute ride) was about $100-- and that was the going pirce.

Gelato in Venice Gelato in Venice is a lot cheaper than other parts of Italy. So eat as much as you can while in Venice! We were very glad that our hotel is within walking distance to the train station, and we do not have to cross any bridges to get there (bridges have lots and lots of steps!!).
