Situated down a small alleyway of Manin Square the Centauro enjoys a quiet location within 5 minutes stroll of St. Marks Square and 2 minutes from Rialto Bridge. We booked a 'superior double' with canal view and when we arrived it seemed that we were being upgraded due to overbooking. In fact the room was quite small with one wardrobe and no drawers or storage cupboards. The air conditioning was good and the bed comfortable but a request for 3 extra pillows was met with a firm 'no' from the front desk (although 2 were eventually supplied). The bathroom was very small with no bath and one small shelf for your toiletries. we were on the third floor (no lift)and the view over the small canal next to the hotel was great, gondoliers passing under your window every few minutes with singing and accordion playing- very atmospheric! However, if you wanted a siesta, the double glazed windows shut out the noise effectively. TV small and no English channels, not really a problem. No idea about the breakfast as we always walked to the Rialto for a coffee and croissant. Overall a pleasant hotel with comfortable if cramped accomodation. I would imagine that if we had a superior double then the singles could be a problem! Venice isn't cheap and we paid about £85 per night. Good location, fair accomodation.

Top Local Tips for Venice
Luggage Issues Unless you can afford a water taxi, don't take more luggage than you can carry at once. Getting from train or parking to your hotel is a challenge with the old streets with steps over canals if you have a lot of luggage. Pick pockets are around and they about 12 years old, so keep you hand luggage within eyesight and never unattended.
water transport if you are in venice for a few days purchase a water bus ticket for the duration of your stay it's excellant value for money
passes get the multiple day passes.. DEFINITELY WORTH IT

In addition to the horrors of the laundry, we eventually found our bathroom inconveniently positioned some 25 metres or so up a hall that passed another dozen-or-so rooms. We met most of the other guests in the hotel clad in nothing but a towel and clutching our toiletries.
The room was small and bunker-like. Hotels are notoriously difficult to find in Venice however Hotel Centauro is easily located by finding the darkest most narrow back-alley adorned with scaffolding.
Venice itself is beautiful and the people friendly. We found the rudeness of our hoteliers an anomaly. We travelled through Europe for nearly three months over July, August and September and stayed in literally dozens of hotels. Out of all of them, we easily rated this our worst experience.
