This hotel was terrible. I checked in to this thought to be 3 star hotel only to find the room was in the shape of a 1 star dirt motel. THe carpet was stained. Strong odor of mold and dust. Cigerette wholes in bed sheets. Stained sheets. THe view was of a brick wall for the amount of space I could open the shutters. Room and bathroom was dimly lit. All and all a terrible hotel. Not to mention the people behind the desk were not too friendly or helpful. This was my final stop on a 5 city trip through europe. I left this place and went to the Grand Hotel Monoaco. I highly suggest that hotel.

Top Local Tips for Venice

Don't take a water taxi! Get yourselves a pass for the water buses. MUCH cheaper than a water taxi, does the same routes and you can see all of venice from a good vantage point. We spent 4 hours on morning just going on all the routes and seeing pretty much all the islands. You can hop on and off....it's great.

Secret Itineries tour of Doges Palace Book this tour. It's about 75 minutes long and you get to see parts of the palace you would not otherwise see. The torture chamber, the offices, the roof spaces and Casanovas cell. Well worth the money. Our guide was entertaining and very informative. Only 10 on our tour on mid July so very pleasurable experience. Three small, very well behaved children on ours about 5 to 10 years old and they seemed to enjoy it too.

NOT A RECOMMENDED HOTEL !!! When my girlfriend an I reached San Marco Square in Venice we had troubles locating our hotel (hotel castello). We had to ask a few people directions to find the hotel. The hotel was in a tight fit alley way and a dim sign. When we got to the reception desk they informed us that they had problems with our room (broken AC, and no running water) they transfered us to a near by hotel which was called HOTEL LUX. Hotel LUX was an amazing hotel with a large bathroom and comfortable bed. Also Hotel LUX had a 24 hour bar which was nice, including outstanding customer service. In addition the hotel offered a free glass tour everyday . The next day we we were transferred back to Hotel Castello. We were brought to our room and the room had a moldy smell. When we laid in our bed we notice that the bed were to small beds put together which had a uncomfortable crack in the middle. My girls friend was always sucked in the crack and i woke up with a back ache. Furthermore this hotel is NOT RECOMMENDED. I highly recommend hotel LUX.
