Top Local Tips for Venice

Excellent Transport System We flew into Trevisco airport which is about 20 miles from Venice. You can purchase a return bus ticket for 9 euros and a 3 day waterbus pass for 30 euros each at the airport. The waterbus pass also includes the use of the land buses on the Lido island. All the transport was regular and ran on time. Despite the fact the Venice is proably the only City in the world to be flodded all year round - it's transport system puts most other Cities to shame.

Avoid the Tourist Season / See other Venetian Islands We traveled in August at the height of the tourist season. St. Mark's Square was overcrowded and many of the exhibits in museums were inaccessible. We got a simple tourist map and walked the back alleys and streets - there are so many interesting little shops and corners to explore. Also, get to know the water bus system; After you see the major attractions on the main islands of Venice, you MUST see the other islands. Hop on the correct water buses and go to Lido, Murano or other islands to get away from the large crowds and see how peaceful it can be.

Don't follow the crowds follow your instincts Although the most popular sites in Venice must be seen there is much more than this. Spend some time just wandering about, as it is almost impossible to get lost on Venice, and you will find some remarkable sights. If you keep away from the packed tourist areas you can find excellent Restaurants where you will get good value for money
