I loved this hotel! When the porter delivered me and my luggage to my room and handed me my 3lb brass key ring I knew I was in for a great adventure! From the cherry red walls and gilt period furniture to the marble bathroom (with not only a shower but a bath as well) I knew
that after a long treck along the canals and through the churches and square that the cherubs over the bed would watch over me while I slept. And sleep I did. The room was virtually soundproof. My view of the courtyard restaurant was disappointing but as I'm sure you are aware you don't go to Venice to look out your window. Two thumbs way up for location, comfort, price, and cleanliness.

The Amedeus is well located especially if arriving by train--just roll your suitcase a short distance to the hotel. The room decor is quite nice with local touches. My room was quite small but adequate for a single traveller. Staff pleasant and accommodating. Breakfast quite nice--especially if outside. The price was right. Would stay next time in Venice.

Top Local Tips for Venice

good food at reasonable prices You can get good food in Venice at reasonable prices away from the main tourist areas such as the Rialto Bridge and St Marks areas which are overpriced. Go to areas around Cannaregio , side streets behind Ca Rezzario away from the Grand Canal areas and there are many cafes and ice cream parlours very reasonably priced.

Getting into the city After flying into Venice, we walked out front and took the bus. It was cheap...2 euros! By far, cheaper than a taxi or water taxi.

No real nightlife There are very few late night activities. We went to the Venice Jazz Club on a Wednesday nite at 10:30 pm and it was closed for the night. The center of activity at night is San Marco square.
