Our stay at the Hotel Alex, Venice was truly disappointing. We have stayed at many a one star hotel, and have never been so displeased. The bedspreads were filthy, the management unable to provide maps or assistance and furthermore, they failed to reimburse us for our deposit (despite repeated contacts.)This is a dishonest and disappointing hotel -- do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else.

Top Local Tips for Venice

Don't get caught in the tourist traps Stay out of San Marco if you'd like to eat well. Look for small restaurants frequented by locals in Dorsoduro or San Polo and you'll do much better. The local cocktail is spritz to be had for a few euros or less, a bellini will set you back €10 or so.
