I was really looking forward to staying at this hotel but I turned out to be disappointed. The hotel is classed as a 4 star but it is more of a 3 star hotel. The outside of the hotel and the entrance & dining area are very grand and ornate. However, it is the bedroom itself which was disappointing. I had sent an email requesting a fourth floor room, newly renovated with the cream decor (as I had seen in some pictures) and with a nice view. When I arrived I had a fourth floor room with decor which was very busy, I would not have minded Venentian style decor but the room was so small that it could not take the stripey wallpaper. The room is very basic, the TV channels are limited, the temperature in the room was difficult to control, the room got hot extremely quickly even with the window open, this is probably due to the small size of the room and the poor ventilation in the bathroom. The en suite was beautiful, it looked very fresh and new but once again a little cramped. The view was of a small patch of grass with a child's play slide. Breakfast was adequate, there was lots of choice but sometimes the staff were a little slack in ensuring foods were topped up. Overall it was the size and style of the bedroom which let the hotel down, if only they had carried through the same eegance and space as they had downstairs into the bedroom the hotel would have been pleasant.
However, staying on the Lido does have it's attractions, you are away from the hustle and bustle of Venice and it is very easy in terms of wheeling your luggage from the water bus to the hotel (the streets of venice are very narrow and busy making this more difficult). Also, Venice is only 10-15 mins by water bus from the Lido (it costs around 6 euros for a return ticket). The hotel is in a good position on the Lido it takes only 5 minutes on foot from the Lido water bus station.

Getting from Airport Cheapest way of getting to Venice - Number 5 bus directly outside terminal to Pizzale Rome (Euro 2), followed by Number 1 Vaporetto to the Lido - a 30 Euro ticket lasts for 72 hours unrestricted travel.

Vaporettos Consider a pass depending on the length of your stay, you might as well same some Euros. Also be ready for people who push past you in lines when waiting they don't care how long you have been in line they want to get ahead of you.

Time your trip If you want to see the sights properly then select a time more out of season to travel. We were spending a special birthday there so we were restricted by the July date. It was extremely hot and humid in Venice itself which meant that to queue for entry to the sights was an uncomfortable experience, even when we arrived there earlier in the morning. However St Marks Square was well worth seeing at any time !
